If its THAT important to you, you can certainly wait until you have definately wanted it long enough, to be able to tell if its a conscious, mature decision. I am very, very anti implants, so Im sorry, but I dont see it as a mature decision even for older ages.
    Good post phistickie.
I'm anti-implants too and even more biased today: yesterday evening I watched the beginning of a talk show about what it takes to be a seducing person, and the guests were all (but one) focusing on looks, looks, looks, perfect looks. Saying things like you can't fall in love with a personality, looks are more important, blah blah blah. It made me sick and I ended up going to bed really early
I am a very insecure person and so I am insecure about my looks too, but the one thing I'm sure of is that people have to take me as I am.
Sorry if this borders on OT

I don't think of implants as pornographic at all, I think if a woman doesn't feel feminine because of her small breasts then fine, get them. But still you need to be 100% sure that its what you really want. IMO, at 17, you havn't had boobs at all for very long so how can you be sure that you're not happy with the ones you have? I think a 17 year old is too young to decide wether they need implants or not, they havn't stopped growing yet, like I said, I had a growth spurt at 17 which made me go up a full cup size.

Plus, a 17 year old is still practically a child, and I'm not being patronising as I myself am only 18 and even I think that I would be too young for implants even if I wanted them.

Absolutely. I was considered a mature teenager, but if I was allowed to make all the decisions that I wanted at the time, no telling how screwed up my life might be. What's the harm in waiting til you're a little older to do something so permanent? One example I can think of is people that go out and get a bunch of tattoos when they're young and end up regretting it as they get older.

I got implants in my early 20s and now I feel stuck w/ them. I had nice natural breasts, but was insecure (as most young women are) about my body. The first doctor I went to for a consultation even tried to talk me out of it. I should have listened to him. Now, even if I have them removed, my natural breasts are likely ruined from being stretched for so long by the implants.

I am not anti-implant, but I don't think a 17 year old should have them unless it's for reconstructive purposes. Your body still has a lot of growing to do at 17. It's just not a good idea.

I'd love to know what that girl's 11 year old nose looked like. Barring hideous deformity, how could it possibly have called for plastic surgery??? This all makes me very sad. How could a mother possibly support a decision that confirmed to her insecure and very immature daughter that the fault was in her own body and not in society's impossible standards??? A good way to feel better about themselves would be for mom and daughter to take the money they would have spent on the surgery and spend it on helping the less fortunate. This (presumably) sheltered and well-off child needs to see how the rest of the world deals with problems she can't even imagine. Understanding the plight of poor children with life-threatening deformities and doing something positive to help them might put things into perspective for her, for instance.
Oh, and mom?? How about activities and experiences that would cultivate your daughter's imagination and interest in things beyond the bathroom mirror? There's a world full of fascination outside her that would help to put this premature obsession of hers into perspective.
Also, has she had the chance to observe any happy but "imperfect" people living normal, full lives? Has she any idea that when you love someone, you cherish their little quirks as well as their obvious outward advantages? Has she ever witnessed adults loving each other for who they really are and what they really look like, rather than how close they come to someone else's artificial idea of perfection?
I throw this back onto the ravenous commercial interests that would do absolutely anything- including encouraging normal people hate themselves all their lives- to make a buck.
It's certainly not easy these days to raise a child with a healthy sense of self-worth and some perspective, but it's not impossible and we all need to keep trying.

^^I agree.first of all, who on earth lets an 11 year old get a nose job? I thought you had to be 16 at least to ensure your nose is done growing?! I have a high forehead, large nose, and I wouldn't change a thing.

also, is she retarded? who WILLINGLY goes into surgery at 17?! she's goign to end up as either the next living barbie or some freakshow!! I had reconstructive PS after my car accident, and I need another one, and I can't even THINK about going back to the doctor! I feel badly that this girl has such a dumb mom who isn't promomting her brains as well as her god given looks.

I got teased for my looks, and now I'm just like "Fuck All Y'all!". I've got better things to do then get my titties implanted....if she wants big tits, then gain weight. Titties are just fat anyway. shit.

    hot?!

whatever! they came back feeding into a stereotype. Since I started training for this triathalon, I've never felt better or more secure. even when I gained weight, I never felt like surgery is the answer....perhaps, when I'm older, and my titties are saggy, I'll get a breast lift. perhaps I'll just wear a good bra.

I just want the daily strength to not fall into the hype...help me out, people!!

Consider yourself helped out, glamazon! While growing up, I went through teasing from peers (weight) and constant ridicule from my own mother (for everything) and am really glad I didn't make any permanent changes because I think I'd regret them now. While no one will find every person they meet attractive (and thank goddess for that!) the diversity of the human race is staggering and fascinating. I enjoy learning to appreciate people for their differences. When we get outside ourselves and beyond obsessing over our "faults," then we can really start to make a difference for the world and everyone in it. The powers that exist to keep us spending and consuming don't want us to make that break. How would they continue to get obscenely rich if we didn't?

I find some of the opinions here very idealistic - YES i agree that 17 is TOO young, yes i agree the world is F#CKED up, i agree that hollywood has irreversibly damaged our perceptions of 'perfection' forever. Look at Heidi Klum's comment on that modelling show to a girl weighing 51kg's - "you dont have a 'dream body' that people would envy, therefore cant be a model"
I was 21 when i was allowed to have my boobs done. I dont regret it ONE bit, i also got a large B cup, NOT a pamela set. I dont agree that young girls can just 'get over it' when they get teased mercilessly about their 'flaws'. It takes maturity of 80 years for a woman to finally love herself, and truly walk with pride- some never do. We cant change the world, even if life IS unfair. All people do now is fight for the underdogs and try to make the fat girls feel better, tell the ugly ones they look good - this doesnt make them feel any prettier. My mom urged me for YEARS to believe that i was perfect, but all i could see was a flat chested unattractive body. We are conditioned to see these 'perfect' girls in magazines from the day we are old enough to turn the pages. The same way we just accept what lessons we are taught at home, this is also conditioned into our minds - this is what HOT looks like. Tv and movie actresses look that way, clothing models, advertorial models, swimsuit models etc. U never see the fat ugly chick selling a new fridge even. We have a preconditioned notion about woman's bodies: Boobs shaped like round melons, stomachs flat as washboards, legs that are proportionally longer than your upper body, full lips, large BLUE eyes, pert little noses, slim toned figures, tanned skin, long thick full hair, long eyelashes, high cheekbones, long nails, small firm butt - i could go ON AND ON. HOW can u expect a ball of insecurities to withstand that pressure?

I think you need to work on your self esteem if you are wanting a boob job at 17...there are other alternatives to help you gain confidence and rethink about your body image. If I was a doctor, I'd prescribe some therapy instead to young ppl wanting PS.
There are tons of young women with small/smaller breasts who are proud and confident individuals without implants.
I don't think fixing the outside will necessarily fix what's wrong/missing on the inside.
I'm all for reconstructive surgeries though, if your chest area were deformed for some medical reason, I wouldn't disagree with implants...

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

    I thought the same thing

I think having cosmetic surgery at 17 is a bad idea because the results never last and it will turn into a lifelong expensive commitment. As you get older and your features change, the results that you get at 17 from surgery doesn't look the same at 35. I know ALOT of women who have gone in for subsequent surgeries. Most results from cosmetic work :nose, boobs, teeth, anything... look great for only 10 years or so. Just something to keep in mind when you start tinkering with yourself.
If you can't be a good example -- then you'll just have to be a horrible warning
