Jana Rawlinson removes breast implants 'for Australia'
    heraldsun.com.au - January 04, 2010

Jana Rawlinson has had her highly-publicised and much-wanted breast implants taken out.

IN THE second about-turn in as many weeks, unpredictable Olympic hurdler Jana Rawlinson has had her highly-publicised and much-wanted breast implants taken out.

Less than a fortnight after announcing plans to remarry her estranged husband and manager Chris Rawlinson, the drama queen athlete has admitted she spent $13,000 in the past 14 months getting the augmentation, only to have the cosmetic procedure reversed.

"Yep, I'm back to being flat as a pancake," Rawlinson has told Woman's Day magazine.

In a surprisingly candid interview, the 27-year-old runner said she had the implants taken out as she felt they were affecting her performance on the track.

"Every time I raced I panicked about whether I was letting my country down, all for my own vanity," she said.

"I absolutely loved having bigger boobs, but I don't want to short-change Australia either. I want to feel the most athletic I can, to know that I'm standing on the track in London (2012 Olympics) the fittest I can be."

Rawlinson has not ruled out going back under the knife and having the fake breasts re-implanted.

"I can always get my breasts enhanced again when I finish my career. I know there are no medals for being beautiful."

The couple plan to walk back down the aisle once their divorce is finalised.

I guess breast implants aren't aerodynamic!

She is such a moron. She didn't think that having ginormous boobs swinging over every hurdle would affect her performance?

If she was a serious athlete she wouldn't have two unnecessary surgeries just for vanity. She's a publicity whore, and I don't think she would have won even if she had stayed flat chested. Now she can use her surgery as an excuse for failing (again) - name your price Woman's Day.

She needs more than breast implants to make her attractive.

I resent her implying that you can't be beautiful with small breasts. It's not a defect, for christ's sakes.

Surely small breasts would be a good thing in a career that involves running and jumping all day, every day. Nevermind vanity - what about comfort? The less you have bouncing around and hurting, the better!

I just don't see how any woman can think the one and only path to real beauty is to get bigger breasts. You are what you are, and that's what makes you unique. Breasts are to feed children. Either big or small is fine. If woman stopped getting these dumbass implants, everyone, men and woman, would get used to what women really look like, like back when I was a young woman in the 70s. Hardly anyone had big tits back then, and men dealt with it. The term "more than a mouthful's a waste" was very popular back then with men, believe it or not. But we didn't really give a shit what men thought about this stuff back then. We didn't bother to shave our legs if we didn't want to either, and plenty of men still fucked us. Ah, the good old days.

I've said it here before and will again: what the fuck happened to real feminism? The feminism where woman accepted themselves as naturally beautiful, wanted equal pay for equal work, wanted to be respected as a person and not for the size of their cleavage and who refused to make themselves into a male fantasy blow-up doll. Not the feminism of today where these girls think they are "empowered" as a woman when they cut into their bodies and have bags of shit rammed into their tittie sacks to gain more self respect. The current feminism where women go to work with their bosoms hanging out of low cut shirts while wearing fuck me pumps and then wondering why the men in the office keep looking at their tits and not their faces. Don't even get me started. Where did we go wrong?

A--fucking--men!!! You are so absolutely right, every word. I don't know how it happened, but it seems to be getting worse all the time. It was bad enough when I was a teenager, but I feel really sorry for girls about to go through puberty now, they have nothing but shallow, ridiculous images and messages to wade through. I think that the mainstreaming of plastic surgery and porn has to do with it, as well as we've let fucktards like Limbaugh and his ilk make "feminism" into a dirty word just like they've done with "liberal." Not enough people speaking up has let the backlash take over.

I'll see you an "a-fucking-men" and raise you one too!! You hit it on the nose regarding the mainstreaming of ps and porn as well as feminism being a dirty word. I hear on boards and directly from the mouths of young women everywhere that they are not feminists, as though that was a repellent thing to be. Any women who wants to have the same rights and opportunities as men and who doesn't want to be thought of as a member of the second sex (a common term when I was young) is a feminist, whether they know it or not. Or would they prefer to go back to the pre-feminist days (I should say the 60s/70s second wave feminism, as opposed to the early suffragette era)?

Yeah, that was a great fucking time, let me tell you. We girls would sit in Home Economics class watching movies about how to please your husband and how going to college was to get just smart enough to be interesting to your husband when you inevitably gave up your own hopes and dreams to become a housewife. I remember in 6th grade, we took aptitude tests where there were four tests, one being secretarial in nature and another that tested abstract reasoning ability. I scored the highest in the school in the abstract reasoning test, but the school, horrified that a little girl should beat out the boys on the "boy test," called my parents in for a meeting to express their concern that I was a little freak and wouldn't turn out into a proper little lady unless my parents intervened. Oh yeah, and a world where men would beat the shit out of their wives because "that's just the way men are." It wasn't really considered a crime. Because it was against the man's wife, i.e., his property, about on the same level as kicking his dog or car or something.

That's the way it was. Until those dirty, probably lesbian, non-hair shaving, man-hating feminists marched and aggressively pushed issues to awaken public consciousness on behalf of woman everywhere in order to gain the rights these dumbass chicks take for granted.

This is around the time it started to go all wrong. You had to bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never, never, never let him forget he's a man. In other words, you had to go to a job, do all the housework, and be super-sexy and sexually aggressive, all while smelling good. I hate this commercial. Women were expected to "have it all" and do it all, while the man just went to work. He wasn't frying the bacon or dolling himself up to provide sexual services even though he was exhausted from everything else.

I agree with Manx that your post is right on time. I will say that the newer state of womanhood is about consumerism more than ever and it's been cleverly packaged up in a box labeled 'empowerment'. In a way there is truth to it because I cannot deny that physical beauty and sex appeal is very powerful, even if it shouldn't be, and it feels good and even validating (unfortunately) when you get positive attention from it. I struggle with being a feminist woman who genuinely enjoys clothes/shoes/purses/makeup/hair because I do not want to convey that those are the things that I think matter most. They matter to me in the sense they function as a sort of artistic expression, i.e. wearable art and a means of self expression. However, they are not what I value most and they are not what I think defines me most. Like most things concerning women, beauty is a double edged sword in a way that it is usually not for men. For instance, if a beautiful woman with a great figure (even if conservatively dressed) is operating in a professional workplace (especially a male dominated one) there will ALWAYS be an assumption that her looks are the primary reason she got the job. In most instances her intelligence will be at the very least suspect because we are inundated with the false dichotomy of beauty vs. brains, as though they both can't exist in the same package. Beauty can also inspire envy in other less than secure women who are more than happy to not give you the benefit of the doubt, because it validates their rationalizing belief that if someone looks that good they must have some major character flaw (usually being a 'slut', a bitch, or a dummy). When a man is in a position of power and happens to be very handsome his intelligence is not assumed to be compromised and his looks are just the icing on the cake. Men are more likely to be drawn to him and want to be him and women will think he is the ultimate catch. Because women's looks are so highly valued by men and other women, it makes sense that women will do whatever they can to try to make the most of their appearance in a world that particularly values youth in women moreso than in men. The fact that men in the 70's didn't make a big deal about small boobs or bushy crotches doesn't mean that people were more level headed or had superior morality then. All that tells me is that there wasn't the technology then like now to change these features and it certainly wasn't affordable to the average person. There also was no internet or 24/7 media or airbrushing, all manufacturing unreal images and forcing them down our throats everywhere we turn, effectively managing to distort our sense of reality. It's not plastic surgery itself that is the enemy of feminism or women in general, but the fact that women are disproportionately valued (or not) for our looks and therefore targeted by the advertising industry for these procedures. If men and women were getting nose jobs or lipo or facelifts in equal numbers I don't think it would be a feminist issue at all, but that is not the case. I get livid at those Hydroxytone ads where these balding, middle aged men with road maps coming out of the corners of their eyes just rave about how hot and young their wives now look (and apparently aren't worried about being traded in now that wifey could probably do better). Those men never seem inspired to start using it themselves, do they?

We need to take back ownership of the word 'feminist' and in particular we need to start calling out these dipshit women who happily absorb all the benefits of feminism while boldly stating that they most certainly are not feminists themselves. I'll take those women more seriously when I see them give up their voter card, close any bank accounts or credit cards that are in their name, quit going to college, and stop thinking they have the right to earn their own money. You know the type: "I'm not a feminist, but.....I believe in equal opportunity, equal pay, etc". These fools have been brainwashed by Rush and the like to believe 'feminists' are ugly, hairy women who hate men and couldn't get one anyway. In other words, being feminist means boys won't like you, and you must avoid that at all costs. Women like me (feminine looking, conventionally attractive, have lots of male friends) need to also be more visible as feminists to counter all of that negative press. The campaign agaisnt women is the most successful in human history that I know of. Don Draper ain't got nothing on that shit.

Quite an epic and spot-on response. Great minds think alike, yes?

I like what you said about how feminine, attractive woman who go against the usual stereotype of what a feminist is should speak up and not be afraid to be counted as feminists also. I think many younger woman do not want that label because they think that men will perceive them as undesirable and too aggressive if they embrace the word as describing one aspect of themselves. It all boils down to the fact that too many women care very deeply what men think about them and perceive themselves accordingly.

Newsflash to those poor, deluded woman: It is not AT ALL important what men think about you, it is important what you think of yourself. (And if any woman thinks she is getting bigger tits to "feel better about myself" she is under the biggest delusion of them all.) I could give a goddamn what any man thinks about me as a woman other than my husband. I don't care if they think I'm pretty (I am), if I'm smart (check) or if I'm interesting (terribly so!). And if my husband gives me any shit about anything, then I will refuse to get up from my knitting, grab my tool box and fix the toilet, the furnace or put in a new light fixture as needed, since the poor guy, bless his heart, is just not good at that sort of thing.

The sad thing is that even if nature has been generous in the boob department some people will assume that you have had implants put in. I was in a club once and completely out of the blue some drunken girl asked me how I'd managed to get my boobs so natural looking and wouldn't have it when I said that it was because they are natural! Things are getting really warped when debate isn't IF someone has had work done but WHAT they have had done. I also resent the assumption that big boobs = slutty/easy/dumb, which is a stereotype that these plastic princesses seem to be doing their best to reinforce. They are dragging the rest of us down.
