Jennifer Grant, daughter of Cary Grant and Dyan Cannon, graduated from Stanford University with a degree in history and political science and worked as a paralegal and a chef before settling on acting as a profession. She said her father wanted her to be a composer, while her mother preferred that she become a lawyer. She said she played piano as a young girl, but she never developed a deep passion for music as her father did.
"My father loved music and I think he thought it would be an ideal profession for a woman," said Ms. Grant, 41, who is in Ottawa filming My Daughter's Secret, a TV-movie that this week filmed scenes outside of Davidson's Jewellers on Bank Street.
"My mom thought it would be neat for me to be a lawyer, it's sort of her unfulfilled territory," said Ms. Grant, who briefly worked at a law firm.
She said she has tried other professions, but she was always drawn back to acting, her first love.

She really is a spitting image of both parents.
