She looks absolutely fantastic for 46 and admitted having botox treatments. She's also had some serious dental work (her original teeth and gums were dreadful) - but no surgery. Gorgeous, talented woman.

^Yes she is, and extremely talented. She takes "aging gracefully" to a whole new level, it's unbelievable.

I think she is one of the most over-rated singers, ever. All that shrieking and trilling and her other vocal mannerisms basically hide a mediocre ability to sing. She married well, tho, and has a great talent for self promotion.

Well, not according to people who really know about singing. I've seen her perform and it was laughable all right. I went with one of the top music critics/writer in Canada, and a Juillard School-trained singer , and they were appalled at how bad she was.
Putting on a good show is not the same thing as being vocally gifted, although they are often confused.

I'm a singer myself, had enough vocal coaches and know very well about singing - thanks.

What did she perform? Where?

Sounds very weird. Is that possible that she's had a bad day? I have spoken with many singers, musicians and vocal coaches about her - and they always comment at how amazing her voice is.
She's not an opera singer and never pretended to be, but still likes to sing arias in live shows (that's why many opera critics, artists and listeners dislike her) - but she is a great classical crossover and Broadway singer.

I've actually seen her twice, once in Phantom of the Opera in London, and once in Vancouver. Her airas are awful in my opinion.
To each their own -- if you like her, that's all that counts. I find her overly mannered and shrill, and more show than substance. And that's my opinion.

I can't stand her either. I find her so shrill that my ears bleed, and I have an irrational hatred of her chipmunk face. She does seem to be wearing well though, to be fair.

Phantom of the Opera is my absolute favorite musical and one of my favorite stories. I cannot say I've ever been terribly impressed with either Sarah Brightman or Michael Crawford, but I would've killed to have seen the original stage production in London!

I'm not a huge fan of the startled chipmunk either, but I don't really go for that style of overblown pseudo operatic diva music anyway. For a 46yr old woman I wish she'd drop the ditzy ingenue persona but if she manages to fill concert halls then good for her. I'm old enough to remember her when she was in the Hot Gossip (how appropriate!) dance group on the Kenny Everett Show in the UK. Then she shagged and snagged Andrew Lloyd Webber and the rest is history.

Someone else said something similar to this. I never really picked up on it. Does she do the helpless thing?
