I started reading The Auschwitz Chronicles again. It's basically a compilation of all the logbooks from Auschwitz, journal entries from SS, and survivor accounts. It spans the entire time that Auschwitz opened until it's liberation. Not for the squeamish, as it has lots of pictures (creamatoriums, mass graves, the medical experiments, etc.).

In the Company of Women: Turning Workplace Conflict into Powerful Alliances

    by Patricia Heim, Susan Murphy

I'd have to read this book again to get the full impact. I wasn't interested in the sections on *why* conflict and competition among women have a certain feel to them. I was far more interested in what to do about it. The sections on the types of conflicts and personalities were helpful without being pedantic or Dr. Phil-ish.

Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss

Yes, it really is about punctuation, but it really is a great book. Or maybe I'm more of a nerd than previously thought.

^ I adore grammar nerds! That just went on the Amazon wish list.

Just read The IHOP Papers from Ali Liebegott.

Amazon.com: The IHOP Papers: Books: Ali Liebegott

Coming-of-age story with a 20-year old narrator who is lesbian, lost, broke, and a cutter. At first I thought it would be riddled with cliches and very off-putting. There's a lot of humor throughout, including satire of of pompous ideals masking codependence. Some insight into the nuances of typical stock characters. Not a lot of ground-breaking, but a fun, quick read.

    The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

an oddly compelling book, not exciting in any sense of the word but
the concepts in it are interesting at least.

I'm not reading anything at the moment. Anyone have good suggestions for me?

I'm back onto the True Crime. Since my mother has been in hospital I have been borrowing them from the library for her and when she has finished reading them, she tells me which ones to read.

So I am reading Vanished by Carlton Smith. It Is about the murder of Jana Carpenter Koklich, who was the daughter of former Californian state senator Paul Carpenter.

^^Mariesoleil, if you tell us what genres you like then there might be suggestions for you. Me I love true crime, thrillers, mysteries, biographies.

Put that book down and slowly step away. It will infect your soul, curve your spine and keep the country from winning the war.

Anyway, re-reading 'Kitchen Confidential'. Anthony Bourdain is so bloody childish and cute. I just want to smear him in foie gras and lick it off him slowly.

I like pretty much any type of book. I don't like sci-fi though.

I cannot bear Ayn Rand.....when I was younger and my peers were discovering her and discussing her "philosophy" of objectivism, I used to want to poke a knitting needle in my ears....

She was also a friendly witness before the HUAC.....testifying against her friends
