I started reading Craig Ferguson's American On Purpose last night. I've only read the first few chapters but so far it's very interesting. He definitely had a rough childhood but the book doesn't read as a woe-is-me memoir with the humour he injects into it. I don't think I'd be able to find humour in looking back at some of the situations he describes, but I suppose he had to. He never seems bleak or regretful but one can definitely see how he stumbled into drugs and alcohol. It reads very well and I probably would have stayed up to finish the whole thing in one go if I didn't have to get up early this morning.

I also bought Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk, which will be next after I finish Craig's book.

A Romanov Fantasy by Frances Welch. It's the story of Anna Anderson, who claimed to be the Grand Duchess Anastasia. Anderson was very troubled from the beginning and I find it odd anyone would have taken her seriously to begin with. The book is great if you're interested in the Romanov family.

I've not got that yet as I'm hoping it might turn up in a Christmas stocking. Is it any good?

I'm currently reading Ginger Geezer: The Life of Vivian Stanshall by Chris Welch and Lucian Randall. It's a really fascinating read and a must for anyone who was a fan of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, although it definately gives you an insight into how out of control Vivian could get when you hear that his drinking buddy Keith Moon had to act as his minder more than once.

I like to read romantic novels. I picked up the new one from Louisa Edwards, "Some Like it Hot" LouisaEdwards.com - Romance Author yesterday from Walmart. Stuck inside was a little card that said, "Stop Do Not Read". I flipped it over and it was a paragraph about following the 10 Commandments and a request to read the Bible every day. I'm a little puzzled about where the card came from. I've bought a lot of books over the years from this store and I've never come across one of these cards before.

Random people put them in, not the publishers or the book store. You Found The Card (Stop Scientology Abuses | You Found The Card) is another scheme of this sort, but is much more worthwhile IMHO.

Sue Grafton's V is for Vengeance. After this there's only 4 more Kinsey Millhone books left. Course it'll probably take 10 years for them to all come out.

'say her name', by francisco goldman. it's the account of his young wife's tragic death and the aftermath. more of a fictionalised memoir than a biography, and absolutely fantastic. heartbreaking and poignant but still funny at times.

I am re-reading the Harry Potter series. I am on book 5 - Order of the Phoenix. Thoroughly enjoying them again - even better when you can refer back to the movies and think about characters, acting, and why they left out things. I do think the movies were very well done even with the re-read.

The Lost Memory of Skin-Russell Banks. It's very Banks-like- about a convicted sex offender living under the Tuttle causeway in the sex offender colony. I'm about halfway through, and it's very good.
