Just started A Game of Thrones. I know what you mean about it being a brick of a book!

Im looking for a book to read now. I finished The Dresden Files book 5 'Death Masks' and am trying to think of something. Its between starting A Game Of Thrones or taking another crack at Wheel Of Time. Im thinking Game Of Thrones is much shorter and knows how to get to the point. Id take another attempt at The Vampire Chronicles series but I have yet to finish the first book. So many books, so little time.

A big thank you to everyone who recommended The Help. I'm about 2/3 done and I'm loving it.

In the Garden of Beasts, by Erik Larson. So far it's great, really fascinating.

Taking another crack at Game of Thrones. So far I've make it to the 4th chapter, which is about 4 more than the last attempt.

I couldn't read all the GoT books fast enough. I hope The Winds of Winter gets released in my lifetime. I'm reading "Becoming Marie Antoinette". I've read a few biographies on her. This one is very well done and enjoyable.

Huh. I just started A Storm of Swords and I am finding these books to be surprisingly tedious. It gets annoying trying to keep track of all the names and what house they belong too. Plus I don't like the Daenerys character. I will finish the series because I can't stand to abandon something half way through.

They seem to be an either you love them or hate them type of thing. The books do have some parts that get very boring. I admit to skipping some pages.

    ^^
I really enjoyed the first book, though some of the stories interested me more than others. By the end of the second book, I was starting to be annoyed because it felt like every time I got into a particular character's mind-frame, I was jerked out of it into another character's story. By the third book I couldn't keep all of the characters straight, and felt like I was forgetting some important aspects of various stories, so I gave up about mid-way through.

I feel like the books could have been better with fewer characters or perhaps just by making the individuals' narratives a bit longer before switching over to another character. I hate feeling this way because when the books are at their best they are absolutely enthralling, but sometimes it was just too much of a good thing.
