'A Piece of Cake' by Cupcake Brown. This woman was raised in a foster home, molested, raped, became a drug addict, prostitute and now she's an attorney in San Francisco. She totally changed her life. It's a truly inspiring story.

My fave Nick Hornby is 'High Fidelity'. Just love that book.

I gave up on Son of a Witch for the 4th time. I just can't make myself get past the first few chapters. It's so disappointing b/c I was so in love with Wicked. I did buy Devil Wears Prada so that I can read it, and I'm liking it so far (but I'm only on the 2nd chapter). I also bought a book called Belle de Jour: Diary of an Unlikely Callgirl by an anonymous author when I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday. I honestly picked it b/c I totally fell in love with the cover, then I read the book jacket and it sounded like a good trashy by the pool book, so I bought it. The cover is GORGEOUS though.

I've finished Dubliners and very much recommend it. Now reading something lighter 'The Real Frank Zappa' book. I read it years ago and forgot how much fun he is. Too bad he's dead...we could use his particular brand of honesty in the country right now.

I have to agree, at first I liked her stuff, but now its getting boring.
Anyway, I'm currently reading How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Its something that totally doesn't appeal to me, but I'm actually enjoying it. This book makes me feel like I'm on a Jamaican vacation- I love that.
I'm waiting for the sequel: How Stella's groove 'discovered' he was gay after getting his green card.

I am about to finish "Prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld. It has the most annoying protagonist in recent memory, and I read a lot of chick lit so that is saying something...
I'm reding El Juego Final by Julio Cortazar, is an argentinian writer, amazing

I just finished "The Secret Lives of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. I reeeeeeeeaaally liked it, I thought it was really well written. It was one of those "coming of age" type stories, and usually I find those kind of cheesy, but I didn't think that with this one at all!
i just finished "HOw i stoll her husband" by Liz Ireland !! i loved it really funny.
'what i loved' by siri hustvedt. it's sooo much better than her previous books, great writing, great story, and completely unputdownable

Sound of the Beast, by Ian Christe. It's pretty good; fully illustrating the most prominent metal movements, but it really mixes up some terms and completely brushes over other things that shouldn't be left out of any book on metal history (sludge, power, groove, etc.) There's a chapter on rap, of all things, that really doesn't belong there. And it needs more Chuck Schuldiner.
