Bella is utterly Mary Sue and the writing resembled internet fanfiction. Aella's post was spot on in it assessment of the series.

And while no one here has claimed that it's great literature, it has been getting critical acclaims (mind-boggling IMO). I read an article where the author compared Bella to Jane Eyre, Edward to Heathcliff and Meyer's writing to Jane Austen. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I have no idea why I read some of the threads about this book on IMDb's page about the movie, because I haven't read any of the books, but it's almost universally panned over there.

They're all disgusted with the way it turns out, and having read about what happens, I can't say as I blame them.

Read it. I just finished the book. While I'm glad I read it and liked it alright, it's definitely not my favorite of the series. It wasn't the page turner like the earlier books. I actually put it down several times during the day and took lengthy breaks. Obviously, none of the books are based in reality but some of the plot points in this one just felt ridiculous and over the top.

I'm on Eclipse now. I heard the finale "Breaking Dawn" which came out last saturday was a complete dissapointment. It sounds so from spoilers as well.

However, I did love Twilight. It's my fav book of the series thus far.

I cant wait till the author drops "Midnight Sun" Twilight from Edward's perspective.

K so I started reading the second book of this series and was prob two or 3 pages in and it was painful. I stopped.
I had a hard time getting through the first one and couldn't go through the second one.
I still think they mis-cast Edward for the movie. That guy is nothing what I had in mind for Edward. Dude was supposed to be, Make you faint from hotness and I just don't find him sexy. He's too boyish and girly. If that makes sense.

^^IDK...I think Rob Pattinson is quite scrumptious. Dont know if your a Harry Potter fan, but he was in the 'Goblet of Fire', and was scrumptious there too...lol

I thought the casting was spot on for edward and bella.

    Carlisle, and Jasper, and Rosale...hell-to-the-no!!

^^ Sophie, I havent read any of the Harry Potter books (I know, lol).

Of all the FOUR reviews I read for Breaking Dawn this weekend, the last book in the Twilight series, they were all AWFUL. I mean, HORRIBLE. I almost felt bad for the author.

I can't even imagine. The first one was hard enough to read.

I liked Breaking Dawn, while it will win no awards, I still loved these characters. Thought the book was good and completely took me away.. I just finished The Host and really liked it too.

I just finished all 4 books (took me 5-6 days to read them all). Meyer's writing is not the best. The plot of the books and the character development is not very deep. So, when you look at it on that level there is no way she should be compared to Austen or any other literary great. But, she does tell a good story that is a quick, easy read and from my experience makes the reader want to know more. There's a huge difference difference between being a great author and being able to tell a good story.

I did like the books, but I'll agree that the character of Bella drove me nuts. I was so sick of her breakdown in "New Moon". Then the fact that she is still madly in love with Edward and yet can't seem to pull herself away from Jacob. Maybe it's because she's suppose to be young, but I don't know anyone who is madly in love with one person and then will go hang out with another male, hold his hand, tell him you love him, etc. Who does that? That love triangle annoyed me to death. I was really glad in book 4 when it was sorted out, though in an all too convenient manner. I'll probably see the movie when it comes out, might as well.

Not in my opinon. It's been a COMPLETE disappointment. I'm doing everything in my power to finish it even though the story line absolutely sucks. The first three kept my attention and I wanted to keep reading, Breaking Dawn - not so much. I'm about 100 pages from finishing and it's getting more ridiculous.
