Well, since somebody already mentioned Harry Potter, I'll be terribly lowbrow in my literary references and say Severus Snape. No other fictional character has fascinated me quite as much.

My favourite characters are Henry Winter from the secret history novel and Elphaba (aka the wicked witch of the west) from wicked: life and times of the wicked witch of the west.
Don't know which character I hate really, but I did get annoyed with some lass called "fern" in the book I've just read - three junes.

I have a thing for him, too.

Me too! Actually I love Poirot especially.
Atticus Finch is a good one, too, McJag.
I fell in love with--really had a big crush on--Ezra Tull from Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant. I'm still looking for my Ezra.

bill wechsler, in siri hustvedt's 'what i loved'. god i love this character. the book itself is absolutely amazing but few characters have fascinated and moved me as much as bill.
a classic but i totally adore holden caulfield.
the little prince
uncle oswald from the roald dahl book of the same name.
dick and nicole diver (tender is the night)
dean moriarty ('on the road')
moraes zogoiby ('moor'), in 'the moor's last sigh'
aureliano buendía (100 years of solitude)
hamlet
abel tiffauges ('le roi des aulnes', 'the ogre' or 'the erl king' in english)
so many characters in romain gary's novels.

but my absolute favourite harry potter character is sirius. from the very first description of him i was hooked. and it wasn't long before i developed a total crush on him. *sigh*
also agree with whoever said holly golightly and atticus finch.

I love Matilda from Roald Dahl's book, "Matilda." I also like Vivi Abbott Walker from "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" and Hermione from "Harry Potter."
And, these are really cheesy, but I loved Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield from the Sweet Valley series. I think it was because there were SO many books about them, going from 2nd grade to college, so I felt I could really identify with them.

After finishing Kushiel's Justice, I love Imriel de la Courcel even more than before. He's so intriguing.
