    Anything but Twilight. 8-)
    well, not ANYTHING.
Even at 13, classics can't go wrong.
Pride and Prejudice, well, anything by Austen really. Noughts and Crosses by Mallorie Blackman. (:
I definitely second Goodnight Mr Tom, and To Kill A Mockingbird.

Notes from the Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick

    Enchantment by Orson Scott Card

Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O'Shea

The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

Gosh, I can't really think of anything else. I was such an avid reader that I pretty much devoured anything that came in the house. I was routinely lectured in school for reading "inappropriate" material. Apparently the teacher didn't think an 11 year old in 6th grade should read Stephen King, lol. If I think of anything else, I'll post it. The four that I listed are ones that I've gone back to several times, Despereaux is one that I'm reading to small fry here, I won't let him see the movie until we read the book, lol.

I'm late to the party, but these are books I remember reading and enjoying when I was around 13:

Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind (I also liked its follow-up, Haveli)
    The Midwife's Apprentice
    True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
    Number the Stars

Edited to add: I was also a huge fan of R.L. Stine's Fear Street and Christopher Pike's works, but I'm not sure how school appropriate those are.

    Mutiny's Daughter by Ann Rinaldi

An Audience for Einstein by Mark Wakely (classifed as young adult, I think she could read this one)

The Rules of Survival by Nancy Werlin

ETA: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle! Thank you so much! I was just wracking my brain trying to figure out what that book was called. I loved that one when I was a girl.
