I'm having a bit of an issue, and I think it may be common, so I thought this would be a good place to post about it. I have been having really excellent ideas for stories, the start of them anyway, and will sit and develop them in my head. However, when I sit at the computer or at paper it's like someone pressed "delete all" in my brain.
I took a creative writing class at a college last year, and want to start getting my ideas into written form, but am having a very difficult time with this roadblock. Any suggestions?

That means you need to keep sitting there. The only way to write is to sit through the process of not being able to write.

Flak, you should start writing your ideas down, as soon as you get them, and flesh the ideas out on paper. By trying to 'perfect' the ideas in your head first, you're creating a mental block when you sit down to write them.

I always keep a pad of paper and a pen handy Flak, you know inspiration always hits in the most unlikely spaces, so you can jot things down and save them to work on later at the comfort of your computer. Plus I always find if I jot it down, the next idea flows and I get more by getting it out into the open.

Thank you so much for your help! I finally managed to start working on a story that I've been thinking on for some time. I also wrote some fan fiction, which was reviewed positively. I'm having a lot of fun with the fan fiction, since I get to play with that are already established and that I like.

Keep going. It does get slightly (not much) easier the more you do it.

Congrats, Flak. It's always a good thing when someone who loves to write finishes a project. And Butt's right, it does get slightly easier the more you do it. But it's worth the effort.
