How about David Duchovny as the lead?

Ooh I'd like that. Although I can't remember any red Speedo scene in the DVC

I have to say I didn't REALLY enjoy the book. It was a bit.. dull. It got more interesting in the middle of the story, but the end... oh my Gosh! So very soap-operish. My mom, however, found TDV to be a great read. Ah well..

I read it once, and had no desire to read it again. Dan Brown comes up withe some good ideas, but that's what they are, ideas. It is a compelling read but the writing is pedestrian and cliched.

Yeah - but it's made him a squillionaire so I doubt he cares.

Like A*O said, a good holiday read, but not what I would call litterature.

I won't go see the movie because I can't stand Tom Hanks.
exactly. it was entertaining, but he's not much of a writer. the writing equivalent of a well-made hollywood blockbuster. entertaining but not exactly high art.

as literature, i enjoyed 'foucault's pendulum' by umberto eco a lot more, and it sort of deals with similar subjects as the da vinci code.

I think Dan Brown is the luckiest man on the planet. How he ever made a gazillion pounds from this book is beyond me. I thought the story was mildly interesting piffle but the writing style made my brain bleed, it was so awful. It reminded me of Ann Rice and the vampire books, which I found to be interesting enough stories to persevere to the end but which were written in a way that was painful to read.

^ I find Ann Rice's style MUCH more painful to read. I barely made it through Interview With A Vampire and I loved the story, I just couldn't get into her writing style. I made it through Da Vinci Code without a problem, but it was when I went on to read other Dan Brown things that I found a major problem with him (how formulaic he is). I found the points he made interesting, but they certainly aren't stone cold fact as people seem to believe it is. When you treat it as a purely fiction book, considering that's what it actually is, it was a pretty interesting read for me.

I love reading but I started it and could not get through the first few chapters. I was bored silly. Hopefully, the movie is better.

I tried to read it and couldn't even get past the first few pages because I was so bored. My boyfriend got the "book on tape" version and not only do I not enjoy it, I almost find it to be difficult to listen to. I think it's mind numbingly boring, and the cheesy French accents make it difficult to understand at times. I hope they don't do that in the movie. Maybe I'd enjoy it more if I actually read it. I don't know. We're a little less than halfway through the story and so far nothing interesting has happened. It's like he's trying to drag it out for as long as possible. There is a bunch of filler material in there, totally unnecessary descriptions or dialogues that my English teachers used to call "Fluff". I'd heard about The DaVinci Code and it seemed like it had some very interesting ideas. I love to read, and I desperately wanted to like this book, but I just can't get into it.

i'm late to this convo, but this book pissed me off.

i thought some of the ideas were rather clever, but it was SO dumbed down and pedestrian that i felt insulted.

I just finished the book and I am HUGELY disappointed. Having finally read the whole thing, here are my impressions of it: Boring, predictable, offensively pretentious, and smugly written. It was like the whole time Dan Brown was applauding himself for writing such a clever book. When I finally reached the conclusion, I was dumbfounded. Not because of astonishment or surprise, but because it was so idiotic and obvious that I had just assumed it from the beginning. I couldn't believe this was supposed to be some sort of revelation or "twist." I don't know if I'll be seeing the movie. I really expected more.

If you´re talking about the movie, I think it was really poorly done: bad photography, bad editing, bad script and especially, bad acting. Audrey´s acting is childish in the movie. Her lines are stupid. It´s like elementary school drama.

    But the argument... fantastic!!!
