Default Anyone read John Grisham?

I just finished Street Lawyer which was the first Grisham book I've ever picked up. He's a crappy writer but an interesting story teller.

Who else has read his stuff? Are there better ones out there by him?

I read a couple a few years ago and was able to figure out, more or less. what was going to happen within a few chapters so don't bother with him anymore. He's kind of a hack.

When I was younger I read his books religiously. Now I haven't read any in many years, but I remember that I thought the Runaway jury was great. I think I've read it like four or five times.

Used to read him. He was much better when he started out. Now it's like he phones it in to meet the annual deadline.

I'm glad you all said that. Everyone raves about him but, within the first few pages, I could tell he's not a particularly talented writer. Maybe I should stick to his early stuff.

My favorites are A Time to Kill and the Runaway Jury.

Wow, I just looked at his discography and realized that he's put out several books I haven't even read.

His later books are sort of formulatic and predictable, but they're mildly entertaining and a quick beach book type story.

Yeah, he's pretty much brain candy...the legal equivalent of Jackie Collins.

Some of his books are okay, but many are formulaic.

I read 'A Time To Kill' among other Grisham novels a few years ago... ATTK was OK... like v42 said he follows the same formula with most of his novels. I guess you could attribute that to the fact that the bulk of his books are legal thrillers, but sometimes it gets predictable.

One of his recent books, The Appeal was better than average.

his early stuff was good but he went downhill and seemed to follow the same pattern imo
