I just read an article about all those books you have that sit there glaring at you and filling you with shame because you haven't read them. Anyone else have this problem? Mine include a number of classics that I know I SHOULD read but can't quite tackle, as well as crappy books I've been given as gifts but don't want to read but can't quite throw away because I feel guilty. Anyone?
I hardly have any that I haven't read. I'd feel like a traitor.
Umm-a person might be quilty of this same flaw. Even worse,she might buy some on sale and then just stack them up in case she ever has to have-say-surgery. She feels guilty only whan someone has the nerve to start a tread like this! Some books change their cover & add so much pizazz that I notice I've read them only when I-um-she gets them home!! So,yes. A person might have this same problem.
Sometimes,one might purchase a book & then a newer more fun book comes out & she shoves the first one aside. Just sayin'.
There are several for me. Water for Elephants immediately springs to mind. I've heard it's great, but for some reason I can't bring myself to crack it open.
Lord Of The Rings. Don't h8 me. There are also several books that I know I've read but I haven't a clue what they were about.
This book that my brother bought me for my birthday. It was about this woman in Cuba who was fat and was dating an abusive, paranoid, alcoholic ex judge. At about her third or fourth beating in ten pages I threw it away and won't be returning to it.

Me too. It was a choice for my book club so I had to read it but it was mostly skimming. It didn't engage my interest at all. I don't like whimsy at the best of times but I can't understand why everyone raves about this one.Quote:

OMG what a story I have to tell! Well not that big really. Some twat told me to read LOTR so I started but it honestly bored the buggery out of me for reasons a lot of people will understand. But he didn't understand, he got in a rage and told me off for being illiterate (this coming from a guy who doesn't understand the complexities of To Kill A Mockingbird :rofl2:) and said that it was my loss. I told him that it really truly wasn't my loss, in fact it was my gain of 50 hours of struggling through something I knew I'd never like. Needless to say we don't talk anymore.Quote:

Anyway I have about 50 books I haven't read yet. I buy more books than DVD's these days. There's The Stand, incomplete. Atonement, same. Eclipse, working on. Catch 22, can never get into it. And a shitload more.
