I've been looking for this book, Giles of the Star, which my favorite teacher read to me in elementary school. She had loved it so much, that she had written HER elementary school teacher to borrow HER copy.
I REALLY wanted to be able to read it to my boys. I had found one or two copies over the last ten years, but since it was only ever released in one edition back in 1928, every copy I've found has been priced at at LEAST 1000$.
Well, two days ago, a copy came up on bibliophile for only 180$. Its in good shape except that someone wrote a dedication in the front.
This book meant so much to me as a kid...really kicked off my love of history, as well, as the book chronicles a squire's difficulties as he attempts to become a knight(Without the social background to do so)...and it follows the process really closely to reality (Takes a little of the mysticism out of 'knights in shining armour' while being fascinating at the same time)
180$ is a lot, but a worthy purchase for a book I've been actively looking for for over a decade. I ordered it yesterday
Yay!
