Question Do you have a favourite book character?

Which character(s) have you loved, and is there any you have hated?

I'll have to think more about a favorite, but I can tell you right now a character I always hated. Jane Eyre, I always wanted to slap her SO hard when I was reading that book in high school.

I adore Nell, from Neal Stephenson's The Diamond Age. Favourite character ever. I'm sure there are more, but I'll have to think on it.

Melanie from Gone With The Wind. I always wanted to be sweet, kind and gentle like her. She owns Gone With The Wind.

I also love Miss Marple from several Agatha Christie books. She is the best judge of human nature ever.

Atticus Finch is truly a great character, as is Holly Golightly.

    Catch 22.

I fit somwhere between Yossarian and Milo.

If you ever liked MASH then this is the book that inspired it.

Only book that can make you laugh til cry one minute then hit you in guts with the nightmare of war the next.

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.

"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he [Yossarian] observed.
"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.

God you're deep Monkey. My fave scene in Catch 22 is the hospital where the patient is bandaged head to food with a drip going into his arm and a catheter coming out the other end and when one bottle is full and the other is empty they just swap them over. The guy's been dead for weeks LOL

I'll have to think about my favourite characters but the one I'd truly love to drop kick over a cliff is that vapid wimp, the new Mrs de Winter (whose name we never learn) in Daphne du Maurier's "Rebecca".

^ I agree to some extent about Mrs. De Winter from Rebecca, it's still one of my favorite books though.

Almost forgot Stephanie Plum from the series by Janet Evanovich.
And her sidekick Lula. She is a bounty hunter by accident. This series is so funny it is dangerous-there have been times I had to pull over & stop laughing before I could continue driving when hearing one on cd.

I looove Phedre No Delaunay from the Kushiel books by Jacqueline Carey, she's a brilliant character.

I also love Harry Potter. I just want to cuddle him, poor baby.
