I loved Sita! Also Damon from The Vampire Diaries, by L.J. Smith. He's the baddest bad boy of them all.

And I absolutely adore James Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. If only he were real...

Okay, this sounds completely pretentious and ridiculous, but it's true - mine is Hutchinson's encyclopaedia. I've had it since i was a kid and it's got EVERYTHING in it. It's a treasured possession of mine and i use it for reference time and time again. It's invaluable. It's all tatty and dog-eared and the cover's ripped, but i don't care. I love it.

My other favourites are all no-fiction textbooks. I don't think i've ever re-read fiction.

I have a lot...

Holden Caulfield - The catcher in the rye
Dorian Gray - The picture of Dorian Gray
Sirius Black - The Harry Potter series
Chris Chambers - The body (a novella by Stephen King)
Howl Jenkins - Howl's moving castle
Ponyboy and Sodapop Curtis - The Outsiders
Mark Sway - The Client

And I'm sure there are many more but I can't think of them right now...

I have so many!

Atticus Finch-To Kill a Mockingbird. I know it's cliche, but he truly is one of the great literary characters of all time. When I read the book at age 10, I vowed I would marry a man just like him. It doesn't hurt that I am thoroughly familiar with the geography and the attitudes of the book.

Scarlett O'Hara-GWTW. Has there ever been a stronger, fiercer female character in all of literature?

Elizabeth Bennett-Pride and Prejudice. I love her plucky strength of mind, especially in the context of the times.

Ignatius J. Reilly-A Confederacy of Dunces. One crazy-strange character, but somehow poignant at the same time.

Tom Jones-Tom Jones. LOVE HIM.

Raleigh Whittier Hayes and his best friend Mingo Sheffield-Handling Sin, by Michael Malone. There simply is not a sweeter, more hilarious comic duo in all of fiction. If you haven't read this book, do so immediately. I have never laughed out loud while reading a book so much as I did with this one. And I cried, or cry, at the end. I have reread this book every year for 15 years. It is that good and enduring. An overlooked classic. The following reviews, reprinted in the paperback, say it well:

Quote:
"Handling Sin is a great big endearing picaresque novel...a larky tale. It's somewhat later, after the breakneck chases and the giggles have subsided, that we realize it's something wiser and deeper. It's a parable of love and reconciliations; it's also a celebration of plain old fun.." Washington Post

"Handling Sin is a comic odyssey..constantly sharp and funny...A KNICK-KNACK GEM-CRACK HIGH-TIME CIRCUS, with intriguing sideshows, and an abiding spirit of fun"..Newsday
And Stephanie Plum, of course, for sheer sexy funny escapism.

I damn well fucking hate the wimpy, simpering Ashley from GWTW. feh.
