I read it at 13 y.o, and believed evrything. I was grossed out as well, wasn't there a "entry" about Alice's boyfriend and His friend and How Alice walked in on them screwing. Knowing that this is a piece of fiction actually grosses me out even more.
I also read the one about the young teenage girl who catches HIV/AIDS and it scared the shit outta me. I was scared to have sex after that....lol
