Default I need a travel book recommendation

No not guide books
Since I will be going away I want to read something while on the airplane so I won't get too bored etc. It's gonna be a 9 hr flight and there's only so much one can do on an airplane.
Something entertaining with a good storyline, something light (so that I won't have to look up jargons and some sophisticated vocabularies in my dictionary!) with maybe a little suspense?

And I'll prolly be just chilling and won't be doing too much while I'm on my vacation so I'll keep on reading.

What do you suggest?

Veronika Decides to Die

by Paulo Coelho

(it's not as depressing as the title would have you believe)

Is this book easy to find? Like can I go to chapters and find it there?

Have you read "A year in Provence" by Peter Mayle? That was an interesting read.

The last few long flights I've taken I went for simple, not thinking too much reading. I've red both Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs on planes, Rebecca (by Daphne DuMaurier-my favorite book right now), and The Princess Bride-the abridged version. If you've never read it, go for abridged. I'm not even sure you can find unabridged anymore, but it is notoriously HUGE and boring b/c the author used it to discuss everything on the planet politically for pages and pages, ignoring the story completely. The person who did the abridged version included his notes about the unabridged version and I really enjoyed it. Plus when they made the movie, they stayed VERY close to the abridged version of the book, so it's just pretty enjoyable.

Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs are good, but dark. They go far more into depth on the murderer's side of things and you get into their psyche a bit. And Rebecca is just a fantastic read, ignore the cover though. The current edition looks like a cheesy romance novel (draping red satin) when it is absolutely not cheesy romance.

The Nanny Diaries It's out in paperback and it's definately entertaining. I usually stick with light entertainment instead of wordy intellectual tomes when I travel because there's only so much your brain can handle. Some of Candace Bushnells books make good travel reading.
