Proust
Anybody ever read all of them? I'm considering diving in but am a tad nervous.

No! I find him tiresome.

That does not make me more likely to dive in. My MIL has them all and I was looking at them thinking maybe it was time I tackled it but then again it's probably 6 months of my life.

Well, give it a try. Maybe I was just not in the mood & gave up too quickly. If you like them,I'll have to give it another try.

Never had the guts myself. I've read snippets here and there. Too many books, too little time. I agree with czb. That is one ambitions project. Good luck to you!

Not sure if I'm going to take it on. I might have to actually go out of the house once in awhile.

There's nothing to be afraid of, they are easy to get into, long unwinding sentences that craddle you, nothing cryptic like James Joyce

That's what scared me off from taking on that task too.

I made it from Swann's Way to Cities of the Plain, but it doesn't really get going until Marcel meets Albertine, and all the stuff with Charles and Gilberte Swann you have to slosh through to get there is incredibly tedious.

I've only read the first one, maybe I'll read more some other time - but my mom read them all and she loved it.

I read the first 3 and fizzled. They are great books but you really have to commit.
Just read Uysses again. Still feel gypped and angry for my wasted attentions. Proust never made me feel that way.

Ok, I've decided to dive in after the holidays. It will be great on winter nights to have something to really sink my teeth into. Anyone want to bet on how long it takes me to get through them all?

Cheers to you buttmunch! But I have no idea how long it's going to take you! Good luck, though. I might call on you to be my personal cliff notes (so I can sound smart on your dime. I'm just kidding! ) I can't see a time I'd tackle a project like that any time soon myself. Anyone who says they've dove in, and completed it, says it's made their life, so that can't be a bad thing.
