I believe "child/ren" is used when the author doesn't want to give away whether or not the subject has one child or multiple kids.

My take too.

Either way, I'm not sure.

Actors are so eccentric. Could be Baldwin or Cage. Cage is certainly eccentric and antisocial I would think.

Yeah exactly. But geez it still could be a lot of guys.
