What about Donna Reed? Won in 1953 and died in the right time frame.
^Yeah I thought of Greta Garbo too because she virtually disappeared and has that androgynous look, but some things don't fit.

^Donna Reed was totally a woman, and had 4 children. Not even close.
It's official. EL just posted that:
Shimmy = Alice Brady
Timmy = Walter Blake
Absolutely great story. Check it out if you get a chance!

I don't believe a word of it.
The blind item and the reveal don't match.
Arthur Blake was 5'11". Alice Brady was 5'2" or shorter.
Alice was born in 1892. Arthur was born in 1914.
Yup, it's a complete fabrication.
That doesn't make sense. Arthur Blake was a known female impersonator and worked as one in Hollywood. The stars used to go to his drag shows.
Look at Blake. He was too tall and too big. Brady was slight.
Brady happens to fit the fact that not much work was done after her win and her 80+ films combined with Blake's is about 100.
BS.
And what about this supposed car? Why didn't he tell us what movie Alice Brady was in that showed the scar? What a phony.
True love is like a ghost...often talked about but rarely ever experienced.
Sunday after brunch I went to Blockbuster and I rented the award winning film, and even knowing what I knew, when I watched it Sunday night it was almost impossible to tell. If you watch it carefully there is one giveaway which is a scar. It's not a big scar, but its evident in photos of the male Timmy which you can still find online in old cast photos and in the female version of Timmy as she acts her way to one of the biggest awards in films. Timmy as an actor and actress was in over 100 films and theatre productions from Topeka to Broadway, but this is about one role and one award.

Alice Brady
Awards Academy Awards Best Supporting Actress
1937 In Old Chicago Alice Brady (November 2, 1892 - October 28, 1939) was an Academy Award-winning American actress in the silent film era of the late 1910s and 1920s through the 1930s, during the Great Depression.
It has been alleged that Alice Brady was actually a man, named Arthur Blake - who performed as Alice Brady whenever she was to ill to work.

I like how EL and this BI alone is now listed in the wikipedia entry for alice brady...
but didn't it say he/she died in the 1980s? she won in 1937 and then died two years later. not enough time for the whole career decline part of the story?
i give up...
Maybe she had to die off so he could become male again. Oh I don't know.

Wait. I thought this person died within the past 30 years? I guess I should go back and read the original blind, but I'm not going to.
That entry about Alice Brady being male was NOT in wikipedia yesterday afternoon.
^^ Aye, when it says "it has been alleged" they mean, "by Entertainment Lawyer". Which is technically true (he has alleged it), but if even he knows it's 100% bullshit, then it's a bit annoying that it will now be canon. People will read that not knowing who made the allegation (though it really should be sourced to provide that information anyway). Grrrr.

Does anyone have any side by side comparisons? I haven't been able to find any pics of Arthur Blake.
There is a site devoted to female impersonators. I found it on google. Arthur Blake is on the site and he is tall and a bit stocky.
