This would certainly explain why she was so eager to jump into this fake relationship. She broke up with her boyfriend, had a fling in Europe, got pregnant and needed to hide it from her very uptight Catholic parents and her fans. Tom needed a beard to generate some publicity for his movies. Hence the fast pace of this very scripted romance and the fact that they are not announcing the due date.
