    Teen Queen was Secretly Engaged
Ring out the old with this nostalgic blind item about some celebrities of yesteryear:

A major movie studio needed an escort to accompany their biggest teen queen to an elaborate banquet. The banquet, which included such distinguished guests as President Roosevelt, was to celebrate the closing of the wildly successful New York World’s Fair in 1940. The studio tapped the young, handsome son of a wealthy and politically-connected businessman. After the banquet, he took our smitten star - who had just gotten over a breakup with a notorious ladies man - to his suite at the Waldorf-Astoria. They had a nightcap and spent the next several nights together. Soon after, he gave the starlet a diamond engagement ring and asked her to marry him. The young man enlisted not too long after, and although the two never married, they kept up a steady correspondence as “good friends”. In later years, he would go on to become even more famous than the girl.
Judy Garland? She was 18 years old in 1940, and co-starred with Mickey Rooney in an "Andy Hardy" movie that year:
    Judy Garland (I)

The only thing I came across was that Judy and JFK were really good friends so it seems to fit.

JFK was in the Navy in WW2 and was on the boat PT-109, so it could be him.

He did a lot of Hollywood actresses, that is for sure. In addition to Marilyn Monroe, there was Gene Tierney, Grace Kelly (rumored). Angie Dickinson, Audrey Hepburn, and Jayne Mansfield.(at the very least) Then you have your assorted debutantes, including Jackie, several fascinating and independant New York career women, White House secretaries and interns, Mafia molls, a nazi spy, the wife of a CIA official, wives of a couple of friends, (including, I suspect, the then wife of Ben Bradlee of Washington Post fame) and high end call girls.
