When this macho heavy metal musician hit it big with his band, he partied to the max and indulged in all kinds of self destructive behavior. Eventually he cleaned up his act, got married and started a family. But one nasty habit he still struggles with is his sex addiction. Now he has an assistant who reads newspapers and magazines before he does, and cuts out all the pictures of sexy women in underwear ads or wearing bikinis.

I'll second that guess. Unlike lots of popular/formerly popular metal bands, James actually seems "macho." Metallica may have had big hair, but they never veered toward the glam-rock side like lots of their counterparts.

Lars isn't very macho, and James has admitted that he shagged anything in their groupie hey-days, while Kirk and Lars were off doing coke.

Also, he takes his sobriety very seriously these days, so I can see him going to such (IMO slightly ridiculous) lengths to keep all of his addictions under control. Apparently now Metallica do not have ANY alcohol backstage, at all, despite the fact that James is the only one who is strictly 100% sober.

Also, one of the things which Metallica didn't bring to the surface in Some Kind of Monster but have alluded to in interviews since (such as the Q "monsters of rock" cover interview last year sometime) was that one of the real sources of tension between the band when Hetfield got out of rehab was that he was starting to be really honest with Fransceca (his wife) about what he'd been doing for the past 20-30 years - and wasn't censoring any stories to protect ANYONE. Including his own bandmates. I think what he said in that interview was "the water got VERY murky at that point" - I'm at work so I don't have it with me.

(Oh - should probably declare at this point, I'm a MASSIVE Metallica fan!)

Now, what facts do we know?
- 2002 - Hetfield goes to rehab, gets sober for the first time in years, starts a very painful process of being honest in his life, band gets a bit wobbly.
- According to SKOM, this was all just because of the things revealed in that movie
- despite having recently had a kid together, Lars and Skylar divorced sometime soon after the release of St Anger

James was telling Fransesca all about their groupie shenanigans, and some of it got back to Skylar, who cracked the shits completely. I think all of the Metalli-wives would've been aware that the boys indulged in plenty of groupies back in their younger days, but the impression I get is that none of them were overly impressed when James started pointing out that it wasn't all in the past, it was still going

Yeah, I'm a fan - and I read the website on a regular basis, so "Metalli-land", "Met-baby news" etc all makes total sense to me. I forget that it sounds quite ridiculous to anyone else!

I don't know of anyone who's first association to 'macho' is Lars Ulrich. He's renowned as a bit of a wanker, really. (I love him, but he's an art-loving, overly verbous, pompous git in a world of simple minded metal heads - and always has been!!)

Completely unrelated, but I know a woman who was formally Metallicas and MegaDeaths personal chef (she actually went on the road w/them both). She has the NICEST things to say about all of the band members. She adores them. Just thought I'd add that for no good reason whatsoever.

I like hearing this kind of stuff too! I grilled her about them! She said they were so not conceited, and were very generous. She said that most Sunday mornings she had breakfast early for them because of CHURCH!

I think Ozzy was married when Sharon started managing him and they got together. I also think he had 2 children from that marriage that he is not involved with. Unfaithful doesn't even begin to cover it. I don't think it is Ozzy because I think he always has a minder with him.

I don't think it's anyone from Motley, because the only one who's cleaned himself up is Nikki Sixx, and he didn't "get married, clean up and have kids" - he was still royally fucked up throughout both his marriages.
