Billy Masters 03/31/08
Could it be that a certain "Idol" hopeful is getting beaten weekly? And I don't mean in the competition. I mean at home. Sources tell me that a parental figure is quite demanding, and when there's a bum note, a tuning problem, or even if he's perfect, the whooping begins. God help him when he gets voted off. Yes, it's a he (well, kinda).

I hope this isn't true, it makes me sick. Poor David.

^Fear don't let you tell.
I hope whoever it is, wins this competition and says goodbye forever to this horrible parental monster.

Stories have been circulating about what a horrible stage father Archuleta is. Simon was convinced that his father chose that horrible song last week

Yesterday, we wondered how American Idol front-runner David Archuleta got to be such a strong contender. And now we know — he has a crazy overbearing stage dad! Allegedly! Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Archuleta's less-than-perfect performance of "We Can Work It Out" on Tuesday's episode may have been the result of an argument with his father on Monday. Purportedly unimpressed with the subpar quality of his son's singing, Jeff Archuleta "yelled at David during a recording session … and even brought him to tears." According to blog L.A. Rag Mag, this isn't the first time Jeff's lost his temper. Citing a "reliable source," they say he harassed several other contestants when David was competing on Star Search in 2003, and was eventually banned from the set after making intimidating phone calls to some poor 12-year-old girl (she eventually beat David on the show).
Sure, you can probably argue with his methods, but there's no denying that the guy gets results. Through some magic (and alleged!) combination of shouting, shaming, and forced ambition, he's managed to create the greatest American Idol contestant in the show's seven-year history. When was the last time we truly saw a stage parent of this caliber? Murry Wilson? Joseph Jackson? It's almost sad to think about all those movies and TV shows ruined by less-talented children whose parents hadn't been nearly so vigilant and/or domineering. Jeff Archuleta, Vulture salutes you!

Poor kid! Someone should give daddy a little stomping of his own if this is happening and see how well he sings. The young man is talented but seems to be a strong voice that lacks heart - Broadway may suit him better. He will be in the final five (due to his large fan base?) but won't go all the way. After the success of Daughtry I would guess the powers that be (Simons Sezes) "rocker" types are going to take this. IMO the Australian dude is better suited to wear the unenviable crown of King of Idolatry better than the others. The only one seemingly true to himself is the dude with the dreads who obviously doesn't give a rat's ass what they tell him - he is playing what he likes - that means he doesn't have a chance.

Aw, poor kid! He seems so sweet, and I think he's very talented. His crazy dad looks like Danny Bonaduce! That would make anyone act like an asshole.

I can't imagine what would happen if/when he gets eliminated.
And what is 'it's a he' (well kinda) supposed to mean?
