Which mournful solo artist is obsessed with his own level of fame? After convincing himself on a recent flight to Australia that he would be mobbed in the streets, the scrawny singer was nonplussed that most Aussies didn't recognize him.

Good guess - solo, known for whiny/sad songs and is not that distinctive looking so could easily not be noticed, even by people who've heard of him.

James Blunt's not due in Australia until May. Just going from his web site - he's been in the US lately.

Will have to have a think about who's been over here lately.

^Oh he was recognized alright. And he was rude. A mob of people waited for him outside a cafe in Brisbane after he said he'd sign autographs when he was finished eating. He ended up leaving and ignoring the crowd.

Wasn't that also the same place he decided not to leave a tip because it would "send the wrong impression" namely, that he gives a crap about anyone but himself?

"Mournful" made me think of Kanye West, but he's not scrawny.

So I looked up James Blunt, and apparently he released his album in Australia recently, before releasing it anywhere else. I don't know why he chose to do that, but this BI could be him.

I vote for John Mayer b/c he fits the scrawny bill, plus I've heard rumblings of him being sad about the Jessica/Tony relationship too so the mournful part fits too. Add in his recent incidents with the paparazzi and it becomes clear that this guy has a love/hate relationship the media. He claims to not want attention, but he really craves it. I'd wouldn't be surprised that his ego was crushed when people didn't recognize him down under.
