We should add a poll to this thread just for curiosity's sake.

I'm loving all the very vivid descriptions of all these eye colors!

My description is simple...brown. I love having brown eyes. I like wearing black because it makes my eyes look super dark.

I have daydreamed about all sorts of different colors. I think green eyes are amazing. But at the end of the day I'm grateful for my dark and mysterious peepers.

You just never know. My son had the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen, then they turned green when he was about 2. My eyes are medium brown, his dad's were almost black.

    Genetics are funny like that.

Scientists still don't understand fully eye genetics. It goes way beyond the blue/brown dominant recessive model I would assume most of us learned in school. They can be unpredictable - my light brown eyed friend has green eyed biological parents. And no one cheated.

They certainly are! I'm always amazed at how it works.... I just followed the link posted on the previous page to a chart. My green eyed odds of green eyed children with my green eyed hubby is 83% since we each have a blue eyed sibling.

Doing my husband's chart, he's an anamoly as well like your son. His dad was brown eyed, his mom blue- the odds of green should have been 1 in 6, with 1 blue eyed and 4 brown. He has 2 siblings, one blue and one brown.

^^ Yes, I think green eyes are kind of a lovely *fluke* for lack of a better term.

I've read that they are not inherited, they just happen.

My 3 other children have a green eyed father: 2 have blue eyes and 1 has brown eyes. Well to be fair, the youngest is only 3 1/2 months old, so his blue eyes could very well turn green just like his big brother's did.

With me having having brown eyes, it's surprising that only one of my 4 kids has them.

My dad had brown, mom has blue. My brother and I both have brown.

I have green (as already stated), my husband has brown, and our child has ... brownish-green! His eyes are almost literally a blend of our eyes, which makes no sense in the world of traditional ideas about eye color and genetics but sort of stands to reason in light of more recent info.

    ^^Isn't brownish-green actually considered hazel?

I think they could be called hazel, but really they are brown eyes that look green in the sun. Very odd.

Natural eye color, ice blue. Very, very light blue.

It sucks. They are always irritated.

I have brown eyes. They've got bits of green in them, particularly in bright light... but mostly, they just look very deep brown. Unlike most Caucasian babies, I wasn't born with blue eyes - my eyes in my baby photos are so dark they look all but black.

I'd rather have blue eyes, personally. I have very dark hair, but extremely pale skin. The hair/skin colour contrast can look really pretty if you also have blue eyes... but with translucent-white skin, dark hair and also dark, rather sunken-in eyes, I sort of think I look like a junkie.

Oh well, not much I can do about it.
