I just spent 2 days at coloring classes, 1 day was learning about new shades and the other was a foil technique class. Flatter browns are in (ode to Desp. Housewives), peekaboo highlights that can be more obvious when parted certain ways, bolder colors.

If you go alot lighter and your regrowth is really obvious, ask your stylist to "break your base" which can lighten your hair AT THE SCALP so you can get highlights done every other visit rather than 6 weeks.

I love that pic of Jessica Alba, my hair is similar, long sideswept bangs with longer layers. Mine is nearly down to my waist and I have a 1 1/2" curling iron I use to give the ends some curl.

Oh, I totally agree that expensive doesn't always equate a good hair cut or color. After having my hair totally fried, orange, green, I decided to go high end and I've been pleased. Here in the states, I've never paid less than 99. for highlights then add cut and blow dry AND tips. It's a tedious and time consuming job to do long, thick hair. I respect my stylist and she deserves the pay, she doesn't pocket the full amount, the salon gets a cut. When I get my roots done it won't be as much. It's a lot of money to me too but my hair is my mane and for now I'm willing to pay for it to look good and me to feel good. When I'm sick of going and spending the big bucks, I'll cut back and go more natural again.
I just haven't had much luck with The Hair Cuttery and color. They are fine for cut & dry.

I'm a natural blonde and a few years ago I decided (after a separation) that I wanted something drastically different. Went to a local salon, donated my ass-length blonde hair to Locks of Love (http://www.locksoflove.org/) and went RED. I've decided to let it grow back so that I can donate again and I'm now loving the blonde with brighter blonde highlights and bright red highlihgts. I'm seeing alot of the mutli-color highlights and they are looking beautiful - I LOVE MINE!!

Wow, Mel that was a really nice thing that you did.

Does the hair they accept have to be 'freshly cut' or anything?

Because I have a plait of hair in my drawer which is about 3ft long.

It's my mum's from when she used to have long hair.

Really gorgeous, dark brown and in great condition

Do you think they'd want it?

I got my hair cut at the weekend, I went to Toni & Guy which is not the cheapest of places and I've had bad experiences there before but I thought f**k it, my hair is really pissing me off right now so what have I got to lose??

When I went in thi young lad walked over to me, he had a kinda Oasis/beatle style going on, I was pretty nervous as I've only ever had women cut my hair, but as I started to explain to him what I wanted I could tell he knew what I meant, for the first time somebody knew!!

So, as you can imagine I was horrified when he just parted my hair straight down the middle, seperated a huge lump, held it up in the air and just hacked it off!!!! But it turned out great, its the nicest style I've ever had, easy to manage too! He gave me his name and number (nothing personal just his business card! he was as bent as a nine bob note anywho!) So I'm gunna go there from now on.

It was worth the extra cost anywat because I got a glass of wine, a head massage and a heated relaxing massaging chair to sit on while they washed my hair!!
