I wish I could wear a really slutty red but, alas, it makes my mouth look like a wound as my lips are too thin. So I have to go for soft 'earthy' natural shades. If anyone can recommend a really good red lippy for a thin-lipped harpy I'd be grateful.

I like mauve shades the best. Of course they're all filled with lead LOL

My suggestion would be to find a red you like (a brighter, cherry red. A dark red will only make your lips look smaller) and apply it with your finger so that it lightly stains your lips. Then, go over that with a gloss. That way, you don't have harsh lines that emphasize your lips, and gloss tends to make your lips look larger. A touch of gold-ish gloss on the center of your bottom lip can also make it appear larger.

Thanks for the tip. I know that 'blue' red suits me better than 'orange' red and I am sure the perfect lippy is out there for me. I just have to find it. Perhaps I will go and make a nuisance of myself in the cosmetics dept of a big store in the city and whore myself around the free makeup demos until I find the 'right' one.

Does anyone else have this problem: my natural lip color is so red itself, that after I put on some reds my lips change to a blackberry juice color! Dark and not attractive.

Has anyone ever tried Clinique's lipstick in Black Honey? It is said to be universally flattering for most skin tones. Before I go out and buy it, I was wondering if it is as great as they say?

^^ I have Black Honey in the gloss and the lipstick. It is flattering on most people, but I will say I think it's more of a neutral to blue-toned color. If you have very warm undertones, it might not work very well.

Maybe ask to try it on at the Clinique counter before you buy it.

Black Honey didn't work for me, but Clinique's Tenderheart is a good "natural" lipstick for an olive skintone. It's been a staple for years. I don't usually like Clinque lip colours because they don't stay on long enough, but this one does for some reason.

I have fair skin so it is really hard for me to find lip color that is not too over-powering.

^^ I am VERY fair and very cool-toned, and it works on me and makes my teeth look whiter because it is a bluer-toned color. The color itself goes on sheer and you can build the intensity.

Whether it'll work on you or not will probably be determined by what kind of undertones you have in your skin. If you have a lot of yellow in your skin and it's "warm," meaning the veins in your wrist look greenish, then Black Honey might not look great. If you have a lot of pink in your skin and it appears "cool," meaning your veins look blue, or if you're neutral toned and have a little of both, then it'll probably look really good on you.

Ok! Thanks! I may have to try it and see. I must have cool undertones because my veins look blue

I'm very fair with cool undertones and Black Honey is one of my favorites, too.

Clinique's lipsticks are pricey, but I love them.

I have full lips and red lipstick is just TOO much, so its not just thin lips. I look like a clown with it.

I cannot wear Black Honey but I love the color.

    AO - try this red.

Put your pointer over Angel Red. It's a sheer blue/red and buildable.
