    Default Makeup recommendations?

I'm in the mood to update my collection of cosmetics. I mostly have MAC products with a few things from Estee Lauder thrown in. I have dry to very dry (wintertime) skin so I have to be cognizant of that when buying makeup.

Any suggestions? Stuff that isn't too expensive to try for the first time would be really great.

I'm particularly interested in good foundation/powder/base and eye makeup.

Smashbox's photofinish primer has the most silicone of any product out there from what I understand, so it's a good one for evening the complexion and getting a glow.

MAC has one that is less silicone, less expensive from what I recall, and has a high sunblock.

I'm so so on MAC lip liners honestly. They can easily get thick and chalky in some areas and not that blendable. Good color though and low toxicity.

Covergirl concealer sticks are still the best ones out there as far as I'm concerned for coverage and longevity.

I just bought Yves Saint Laurent False Lash Effect Mascara (Faux Cils) and it's pricey at 20/$25-30 but it really does do the job. After only one coat my lashes look curled, seperated and thick!

For eye makeup I really love Stila eyeshadows, Diorshow mascara or L'oreal Voluminous.

I love MAC blot powder, and Clinique Almost Makeup when my skin is good, and Chantecaille Future Skin foundation when I need a little more coverage

I'm always nervous to spend a lot of money on makeup, just because I don't know what I will like and if it's worth it.... I'm probably way out of my league by entering this thread!

But for mascara I love Covergirl's lash blast. It works a lot better than a lot of mascaras I have tried and I think it was a little less than $10.

Sephora is having a huge sale on a bunch of their collectors edition kits right now. I got this one for Christmas, and I'm very pleased with it. It's on sale for $48 (valued at over $300):

The Sephora Brand Collector's Edition Palette sets the gold standard and gets you set.
    This palette has it all:
    - 71 eyeshadow shades (0.04 oz each)
    - 13 cream eyeshadow shades (0.03 oz each)
    - 5 blushes (0.19 oz each)
    - 1 compact powder (0.19 oz)
    - 60 lip glosses (0.03 oz each)
    - One lip liner
    - One eyeliner
    - 4 brushes
    - 3 sponge-tipped applicators
    - A smart black case that's as classy as you are

Question: when you buy a huge kit like that, how much goes to waste? Can you make an entire palette work for you?

^ that's a great pallette. I have it and love it.

    My other makeup loves are:
    - Bare minerals foundation
    - Benefit Bad Gal mascara is the best. I've tried everything else and nothing compares.
    - Lancome has the best eyeshadows IMO.
    - Apvita Propoline tinted lip balm is the best. The red color tints like lipstick but moisterizes like balm. Its only $ 8 here: http://www.beautyexclusive.com/apivi...olive-oil.html
    - Chanel brow pallette

I usually experiment with everything at first, and then decide which colors I like best and predominately use those, while using the others for special occasions or particular outfits that they go well with. There are always a few that just don't work with my skin tone, but for the most part, I don't find that I waste too much of it.
