Default Chanel No. 5 most iconic perfume

The scent is said to have got its name after designer Coco Chanel was presented with several samples to choose from, each labelled with a number.
After choosing the fifth bottle, she declared that the perfume would simply be called No.5.
Now, the popular jasmine scent, which first went on sale in 1921, is thought to sell a bottle every 55 seconds around the world.
Even movie legend Marilyn Monroe was a fan after famously saying she wore the perfume in bed.
Matt Twigg, fragrance buyer for Superdrug, said: "Perfume is such an essential part of getting ready for a woman and the fragrance they choose can really reflect their mood at that moment.
"Chanel No.5 is an iconic perfume which has truly stood the test of time, being just as popular now as when it first went on sale almost 90 years ago.
"All the perfumes in the top 10 have adorned dressing tables across the country and will remain staple scents for years to come.
"It's good to see a celebrity perfume making it into the list from the Beckhams too - they are the ultimate celebrity couple and their fragrance is just as sexy as their advertising shots."
Calvin Klein scooped second and third place in the poll of 2,000 women by Superdrug with their unisex perfume One and iconic scent Eternity.
Chanel also featured for a second time, in fourth place, with her scent Coco, which was launched in honour of the designer following her death.
Dior's Poison was at five, followed by Ghost's original scent, Ghost and Cacharel's Anais Anais, which was launched in 1979.
Eighth place went to Lacoste and Pink, followed by Yves Saint Lauren's Opium.
David and Victoria Beckham are the only celebrities to have a scent feature in the poll, with Beckham - Intimately Her completing the top ten.
The perfume, which first went on sale in 2006 was launched alongside the male equivalent, Intimately His.

Chanel No. 5 can smell divine on the right person - on me, it smells like a migrane. Same for that whole top ten list, since spicy, warm scents don't work on me.

I'll keep my non-iconic citrusy florals.

That list is bollox. Chanel No.5 smells like cat's pee on me, as does everything else on that list. I have never even heard of Lacoste Pink or the Beckham shit.

Cat's pee is the right expression, but Coco agrees on me.

Anais Anais smells great on me and I love it.

Poison is foul, do you hear me? Foul.

I wore Chanel No. 5 years ago, but now it just reminds me of my Aunt Ruth.

i don't know that i really know what chanel no. 5 smells like & it's like the most famous perfume ever.

i do like eternity on some people, but absolutely hate it on myself! it's just awful on me...way too strong or something.

Smells like a Migraine!! Yes, it does. Poison is iconic for me as my mum used to wear it when I was young. It is a smell of my childhood...but I wouldn't be caught dead wearing it!

Mom used to douse herself in this shit. Turned me off of it forever since I'd usually be sitting next to her in the car( i.e. in the path of the spray) on the way to school and it would make me nauseous.

I have a lifelong love affair with Chanel No.19. I never get bored with it and it suits me. I try other perfumes but none of them come close.

Loved that too for a few years. I'll have to try it on again.
