    Default Poison oak

i'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this question, but my neice got into some poison oak over the weekend and it's all over her face and she did get prescriptions but they aren't really helping and her mom, my sister, is freaking out over what she can use to help the healing of it..

from what she's told me, the blisters are still filling up and bursting and it's even spreading a bit to her stomach and leg and shoulder.. apparently the doctor told her that she was just having a really bad reaction to it and that some of the cases like hers will take nearly a month to heal completely

does anyone have any suggestions that i can pass along to my sister? i guess she needs suggestions for getting the blisters to dry up and something so they heal quickly.. school starts in about 2 weeks here and my neice will be starting 7th grade is is freaking out over how everyone will treat her

anyway, any tips or suggestions would be appreciated

I've always heard about using Caladryl or Calamine lotion. Aveeno oatmeal baths and maybe some advil for the pain.

I've never had it, but I hear it's just awful.

keep her hands away from every other part of her. Hell, put them in plastic bags. I had poison oak or ivy when i was a kid, and even after a shower and soap, the oils still spread all over my face when i touched it after.

How horrible! Talk to a druggist-they usually know better than the doctors. I hope her doctor sent her to a specialist.

That sucks. I've never had poison ivy or oak but I had to babyshit a cousin years ago with it and he was 5 I think; he was not a happy camper. Then he started running around being a shit because he knew we didn't want to catch it; that's when the yellow kitchen gloves came out. Turns out it isn't spread that way after the oil is washed off.

The aveeno baths are awesome; she could even make her own oatmeal paste and just pack it on the areas like a mud mask.

I looked at this site Prescription / Medical - Viewer Suggestions to treating Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac - (www.poisonivy.us)

I know when it gets that bad some doctors will give you a shot.. of something.

I've had it all over.. ALL OVER.. including my face. When I worked retail, that was fun, people look at you like WTH. I used Listerine it burned like hell but it dries it up.

Oh no - why did I click on that rash picture link on the poison ivy site??? They even warn you first!

I had this one and only time when I was 19 years old. Apparently I was tearing leaves of what was poison ivy, when I was just hanging out with friends in a park. 48 hours later, I came out with a rash everywhere. My eyes were swollen shut for a week. One of the worst things ever.
