    Default Dry skin...need some ideas/advice

Normally, my skin is great (talkin about my face) never had a problem with dry skin before. I use proactiv products religiously because its worked so well for me. The past week my skin has been sooo dry...it actually almost looks like i got sunburn....no redness...just flakey skin. Monday and tuesday it was only around my chin/mouth....now its spread to the rest of my face, its especially dry around my eyes and my nose too. Ive been moisturizing like crazy (seriously, i brought it to work with me!) ive tried my exfoliator..that didnt help at all. Someone help me out...its driving me absolutely nuts!!

Do you have any moisturizers that contain urea? The urea will both help to moisturize the skin and exfoliate the dead skin.

Take some really good vitamins silver, and back off the Proactiv, interchange it with something more emollient (if you can afford to, that is, i.e., if the acne is now under control). Sounds like it's time to alternate your moisturizer with something more emollient. Also drink lots of water, and take some EFA supplements (3-6-9 Omega is a good one).

I have dry skin on the face, if I use too much moisturizer, I get acne. My facialist told me don't use products that contain alcohol that will dry out the face and don't use astringent/clarifying products.

I have had no problems this year and have changed my routine. I now use those Olay cleansing cloths instead of cleanser. I use them and then moisturize. It seems to not dry out my face as much as cleansers do. Maybe that would work.

thanks for helping me out...its really driving me crazy!!

as for the acne, its been under control, i try to stick with proactiv because its worked so well with my skin. I think i have some Dove moisturizer at home, i will have to try that for the weekend. Believe it or not, i drink water all day long, i rarely drink anything but water, i dunno why but water is the only thing that really quenches my thirst. I have some flaxseed oil in capsule form, i used to take lots of vitamins..but we went on vacation and i got out of the habit...im going to have to put them all right on my desk so i remember to take them...because when i think back to it, my skin was perfect when i was taking them everyday.

xoxo-is there a mask you recommend??

so far the stuff that has felt the best is Estee Lauders Idealist, i know its not really a moisturizer, its a finisher...but my skin seems to really take it in, and it doesnt feel as dry so quickly. I used to use it all the time, but it started clogging my pores and giving me lots of blackheads

figures its the bf's birthday and we are going out tonight and tomorrow night to celebrate...and here i am with scales on my damn face

I Love the Alive vitamins by Nature's Way - I swear by them. I've studied vitamins for years and it is an extremely comprehensive formula with all kinds of goodies in there...this is a good link, being young you should take the formula with iron in it (I take the no iron formula). http://naturesway.com/NaturesWay/pro...roductid=14928
They are not expensive at all for what you're getting. About a dollar a day... maybe a little less than that and only 3 pills to take.

My hair has been growing like a weed, too since I've been taking these.

Try moisturizing while your skin is still wet with water, Silver. It will take a lot longer to absorb, but whenever I do this it just feels so moist and quenching, and it seems to stop flakes in their tracks.

Are you washing your face twice a day? If you are, you may just be overwashing it. I have oily skin that breaks out, but sometimes my skin gets dried out from all the strong products I use. Skip washing your face in the morning for a few days, don't even put water on it. Just use a moisturizer (I use DDF ultra lite dew)and a sunblock during the day and your normal washing routine at night.
If you can't be a good example -- then you'll just have to be a horrible warning

My plastic surgeon swears by vaseline and that's what I've been smearing on my dry eyelids religiously. It helps.

mira..i checked those vitamins out..i might have to order some, they look like they have a lot of good stuff in them, not just for my skin

when i first started using proactiv i was washing my face twice a day, and i found out right away that i couldnt wash my face with it twice a day, so i only wash my face with it at night before bed...theres renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner and then a repairing lotion. Im going to try what tati said about putting it on while my face is still wet. I thought about vaseline, but i dont think we have any

after reading all these i think i need to make a trip to the drugstore...and it sounds like you had a fun morning shedevil

thanks for all the help everybody!

you might try oatmeal/honey or something with avocado, something rich and moisturizing..i've used a lot of home-made face masks and they work really well, just using kitchen ingredients and things like that...

edit--silver, i will look up some specific combinations and post them later...like tonight or tomorrow

I do this too. Wash it at night and put the moisturizer on, don't touch it in the morning. On the weekends, I will do no makeup (unless I have to) and don't wash until Sunday night to let the oils get back in.

I can't do this in the summer, though, I feel really gross.
