Unhappy Still having problems with my fried hair

so as some of you may know, I fried most of my beautifully damaged hair off w/ a relaxer about a month ago and its been slowly growing, but its still falling out at the root more than it usually should I think (and the blonde part is still breaking right where my roots ends), anyways Im just really concerned abouty the hairs falling out at/of the root...
should I go see a dermatologist?
Can they prescribe anything to really help me??
or am I slowly going bald b/c it was so damaged from 5 years of bleach and a $5.00 relaxer?

A friend of mine got some bald spots (forgot the medical term...) from stress and becoming vegetarian etc. She went to her doc and got some kind of shots. She said they hurt like hell but her hair did start growing back. Also, she had to give up her vegetarianism.
Sorry I can't remember the name of med ingredient in her shots but I'm sure you can go see a doc about it and get it treated.
She had about 3 bald spots. One was maybe 2 cm big and the rest were about the size of a quarter.
Maybe you can try something like Rogain for women and see if it works?

omg thats awful, its so traumatizing for a girl to lose her hair like that, I can't explain it to people, but I have way more compassion for chemo patients, sorry to sound shallow, but i'm actually lucky to have anything after all the shit I did to myself, Ill ask a doc bout that shot; no pain NO GAIN!

let me know what your doc says alice. my hair (because of a beauty school friend who insisted she was doing a chemical treatment on my already straight hair that would make it even more silky and shiny) fried and fell out 2 and a half years ago. it was a slow, painful process of falling out too. not all of it fell out (pretty much it was at the crown of my head), but i had a alphalpha sprout for a long time, and the hair that didn't fall out was horribly damaged. i haven't colored or done anything to my hair since then. as someone who has had really long hair my entire life, this was (is) extremely depressing, more so than i ever would have thought....like you, i really feel for chemo patients now or women that have to go thinning/balding hair.

Now I remember the name of the shots!! Cortisone shots!!! But I think these only work if you have an area that's balding, not just thinning.
I think you could also consult a hairdresser. My mom is one (in Japan) and she sells hair tonic and stuff for thinning hair.

    Oh, I'm so sorry.

You are taking vitamins & all that, aren't you?

I don't know where you live, but around here (not a particularly big city) there is a clinic for damaged hair. It's been advertised for years. It's supposed to be a big help for situations like this, but heaven knows how much it costs. I wonder if there's something like that around you.

Tanx, I have been pounding the vitamins down cause I don't wanna get too sick this year and have to miss work and shit & I'm gonna ask for that from a doc, once I get insurance...and yeah raise some serious funds via the lottery!

oooh, cortisone shots aren't fun. The needles are ginormous b/c the cortisone is so thick.

Alice a friend of mine went thru the same thing as you. She overprocessed her hair to the point where it was fried and breaking off. A dermatologist will help assess the cause of your hair loss by examining your scalp, and doing blood work to check hormonal levels, iron levels, etc. There is not much that can be done to stop hair loss from frying one's hair other than cutting all the damaged hair off and regrowing it. Best of luck to you.

hahahaaa thanks for the laugh Lobelia that was just wat I needed on a rainy tired day at work and thanks AliceInChains, I hope its just from damage and not for all the bad karma I deserve, uh but anyways those cortisol shots sound really gross, I heard Courtney Love use to do them in order to stand up straight after all the drugs she was doing or some shit like that!

thanks for asking (2 weeks ago sorry), its growing but still breaking off after I comb it after I get out the shower and i lose about 30 hairs a day give or take, which saddens me immensley, I don't kno, I have yet to see a dermatologist b/c my insurance hasn't kicked in yet, but I will as soon as I can no matter the cost, cause my hair is growing in so thin and sad, but I guess at least its still growing, the color is still a burnt chocolate color from hell w/ black roots so my hairpiece barely matches it anymore...but it could be way worse and I know come summer time I'll be better off I was thinking of getting a sun-lamp cause sun is good for your hair I think, but any suggestions on a hair thickening solutions?

I think it's normal to lose that many or even a little more hair a day. I counted one time how many in the shower, too. It saw 50. Try not to stress about it Alice.

We say in Japan that seaweed is good for hair growth, makes your hair thick, healthy and glossy (I think it's especially good for dark hair).
I don't know if you like eating seaweed but it's good in miso soup and salads (e.g. sunomono).

    Good luck!
