Default Anyone had eyelash extensions done?

If so, were you pleased with them? Details on maintenance? My eyelashes SUCK and I'm tired of it.
Can you put mascara on them and remove the mascara? Wondering because I prefer as dramatic a look as possible; I have to curl and apply a jillion coats to my short, skinny, sparse pieces of crap. I don't want to deal with false lashes though.

I've seen them on my hairstylist and they look awesome, though I don't think she puts on mascara. I'd ask her for the low-down but she's on indefinite maternity leave.

Yes, I've had them. They are gorgeous. I think you can put mascara on, but I'm not sure because I never used it when I had them, the extensions were dramatic enough by themselves. The downside is around week 3-4 when they start to come loose, they really stab your eyelids badly. The other downside is they pull out your own eyelashes quite a bit. It took nearly a year for my own lashes to recover after I stopped getting them (my girl moved away and i didn't really like anyone else there).

Be careful, I've heard too many horror stories of people's natural lashes being destroyed to try them myself. They do look lovely though.

Have you tried Latisse or those other growers?

never had them but like belt up, i've only heard bad things. you want to protect your own lashes, even if you think they're shitty.

I've had them and they look great when put in at first especially if you go for 'natural' ones. As Greys says, they start to fall out and this doesn't happen evenly so you have to adjust the ones that are left. It didn't hurt though.

I've had them done once and like others have said here, they look great but the maintenance sucks. But I loved waking up in the morning looking like I had eye makeup on. They're dramatic enough that you don't even need eyeliner or mascara if you're going for an everyday look. I would probably get them again if I was going on a vacation or something, but personally I don't feel they are worth the hassle for everyday.

I had eyelash extensions for nearly two years and I must admit I absolutely loved them, well, at the time, but the upkeep was too much for me. Here's my experience. I saw one friend's eyelashes and I remarked how long and lush they looked, and she told me she had them done at a particular salon that also specialized in eyelash extensions. That's all I needed to hear and I made an appointment to get them done.

First, the eyelash extension specialist showed me the type of lashes I wanted. Synthetic or mink. I've gone for both, but I usually go for synthetic as it's less expensive and I found the synthetic lashes seemed to last longer than the mink ones. She also asked me what style I wanted. Really glam, ultra long ones or natural. I chose natural. She went on to explain what she would do during the process. She said she would would place a single lash extension with an adhesive to each individual lash. Over time, the extension would grow out with the eyelash and fall off. She said I should come in every two to three weeks to replace the ones that fell out. I wasn't always so dedicated, but I was...most of the time. LOL! So the specialist had me lie on a table and she placed some kind of pad to protect my lower eyelashes. Then she asked me to close my eyes and she did her thing. Voila!

Here are my eyelash extensions when I first had them done. Please forgive the crappy quality of my cam pics. Regarding my extensions, I felt so happy with them because my eyelashes are naturally wimpy and sparse! Oh, to answer your question, ManxMouse, yes, you can apply mascara, but you have to find a mascara that's not oil-based and you have to use a non-oily mascara remover. HOWEVER, I was advised against it since a lot of mascaras tend to be oil-based and will loosen the adhesive. Besides, you wouldn't need mascara anyway because the lashes will be noticed anyway.

Anyhoo, nice, huh? I loved fluttering my eyelashes.

And here's another time when I had my eyelashes for about 2-3 weeks. Notice the stray eyelash extension about to fall off from my left (your right) eye.

And here are the other times (for the life of me I'm still trying to figure out why I took pics of my eyes) I had eyelash extensions after Week 2.

And this is when my eyelash extensions started dropping like flies after Week 3-4. LOL!

Oh, before I forget, if you do decide to go through with the eyelash extensions, you must NOT get your eyelash extensions wet as the curl of the extension will go "flat" and wonky. Maybe even fall off. Let's just say I learned the hard way. LOL! Whenever I showered, I wore swimmer goggles which helped prolong my eyelash extensions. It sounded extreme, but it worked.

I only stopped with the eyelash extensions because my real lashes started to become even more wimpy and sparse. Also, the maintenance was too much. In the end, while it certainly looked good, it wasn't worth it imho. It's funny how that works considering I had them for almost two years.

I wanted to get them. I have a couple girlfriends who have them and they're fricking stunning! But I rub my eyes all the time so they both said they wouldn't work well for me. I'm going to try the Younique fiber lashes.

Will you report back if you get the extensions?

A girl at work has them and they look sooooo fake, but she loves them and boasts that everyone tells her how natural they look. So she probably didn't appreciate me saying she had spiders on her eyelids.

Thanks for all of the input, guys! You've been super helpful. I hadn't realized they screw up your own lashes....I don't want that to happen, even if it's temporary. Though Heart_leigh's look really cool in her top photo.

I do have the Younique fiber lashes -- thanks to Louis! -- and they're not bad, but my lashes are just so crap that they don't hold onto them all that well and it looks spidery. I think I should practice with it more, though. I'm nearly always rushed when I put my makeup on for the day. Will make a more concerted effort.

I dismissed the idea of Latisse because of that possible side effect of darkening your eye color. Maybe there's a 2nd generation version that doesn't do that anymore? Off to research!!
    Thanks again.

For the fiber lashes, try multiple coats. At first, I would just do one, now I do it 2-3 times when I wear it. Except for when i do vendor shows, I put mascara on one, then demo on my other eye. By the end of a 4 hour show, my one eye is like 17 inches tall. Hubby can't look at me after I do a show because it freaks him out. If anyone is interested, I do sell younique fiber lashes and can ship you a set with free shipping.

Eyelash extensions would freak me out. I do have a client that does latisse, and uses the fiber lashes in addition to them. In regard to eye color change, the doc said they may lighten the color in rare circumstances, but they won't change blue eyes brown or anything.

i did extensions a few times and i loved how it looked because i have short, straight, sparse eyelashes - the worst combination! i had a TERRIBLE reaction to the glue the last time and my eyes swelled shut.

louis - does the fiber work on people who have sparse lashes to begin with or does it just look like you have 5 really long lashes on each eye?
