I don't have any good recommendations cmmdee, but am very interested if anyone else does! I color my hair a LOT, and will be going tomorrow to the salon for that, and I'd really love to not go in so often. Great question!
Hi everyone.
I just colored my hair last night and am notorious for never using those color-safe shampoos/conditioners you're supposed to when you dye your hair to keep the color in.
Any recommendations of good ones?
Thanks.

First of all did you lighten your hair or darken it?

Come on, let's have lots of drinks.
and always remember that red hair fades faster than any other color - and hot water causes it to fade faster.
They're both proud drunks, they're both proud sluts and they're both proud wearers of thirsty weaves. They both probably think that the other one is swallowing up the entire world's supply of vodka, peen and yellow weaves. Michael K (re Brandi & Chelsea)

I really like the Pureology line:
Hydrate System: Sulfate-Free Haircare to Moisturize Dry, Color-Treated Hair by Pureology
Esp. the hydrate line. I find that this shampoo cleans well but not harshly, and a little goes a long way (its kind of expensive).
I'm guessing and sulfate-free shampoo would do the trick.

Frederick Fekkai has some color protectant products too:

I've been using L'Oreal shampoo Ever Pure Sulfate Free Color Care for about 5 years. I'm happy with it. Ive never tried any of the high end $20 to $50 designer shampoos.
I don't like hair conditioners, for some reason they make my hair feel limp and greasy.
Post-shampoo I use Pantene hair mask treatment. Comes in a square tub. I really like this product. Best of the drugstore variety hair mask products and I've tried them all.
If it's an endorsement of these products, I get a lot of nice compliments on my hair. I've been coloring it for more than 15 years so it does get damaged, I can tell, but other people tell me I have great hair.
(good thing they can't see my knobby knees)
I swim in chlorine almost every day, my color is always f'd up, even though I wet hair before getting in the pool and also use shampoo afterwards to remove chlorine. My best bet is to go gray, but I only have gray on the sides of my face, so it just looks old.
I use Pureology too, but I hate the smell of the shampoo, it's too pungently herbal like fennel or something weird. Also, it's probably because it's sulfate-free but I feel like my hair gets greasy faster than when I used normal shampoo. It does well for what it's supposed to do, make your color not fade so fast, but I'd love to try another one that at least smells better.
Back when I colored my hair regularly I used Redken Color Extend shampoo & conditioner. I don't love the smell of Redken, but it got the job done and did protect my color well.
I use Pureology but also use some Moroccan Oil before I blow dry and I love the smell of it, plus it makes my hair so shiny and silky.
Yes! I use Moroccan Oil before blow drying too and I love the smell of that stuff. I wish they made a good color-safe shampoo that smelled just like it.
I use the Rene Furter Okara line. My hair has been it's healthiest since I have been using it about two years ago. I do my roots once a month and hilights every three.
I love the look of Moroccan oil but the smell makes me want to gag. I still use it every day though.
