Stewart has a well-earned reputation for being a cheap, obnoxious prick. He's probably afraid she will come after him for money, and therefore avoids acknowledging her as one of his children for legal reasons.

I'd run to Harrod's if I were her. It's probably the last present she will ever get from him, and it's not like she asked for it. I disagree that she only wants to be with him because he is rich -- it is a natural human instinct to want to know your birth parents, whoever they are. And it's not uncommon for the situation to backfire. It's a risk adopted children take all the time.
