yeah having kids will affect your work sometimes. but that's not the point, IMO. the point is, as a culture, we have to make the workplace more family-friendly, more woman-friendly. i mean, it's the sort of thing that pisses people off until they have kids of their own and realise it's inevitable. As a person with no kids and no future kids, I expect to receive some additional compensation in the form of pay or extra vacation/flex time in exchange for the leeway given to parents. It is not inevitable that your work will take a backseat sometime as evidenced by my very hard working single parent mom. Unfortunately, the more perks/accommodations are given to people, the more people begin to feel entitled to do less for the same money. If women found the balls to make their households more equal or 'woman friendly' they wouldn't need to demand this from their employers who are not responsible for making their lives enjoyable or comfortable, only for paying them for the work they do.
