yeah having kids will affect your work sometimes. but that's not the point, IMO. the point is, as a culture, we have to make the workplace more family-friendly, more woman-friendly. i mean, it's the sort of thing that pisses people off until they have kids of their own and realise it's inevitable. as for employers asking women if they plan on having children soon - i think that's illegal in some countries, which doesn't stop them and if you refuse to answer, i doubt they'll call you back for another interview, much less give you the job.
it sucks that women are expected to sacrifice everything for their kids. and if they do choose to go back to work, they are punished or discriminated against for having a family. it pisses me off to no end and is just one more reason why i'm increasingly less inclined to ever have kids.
