I understand this point, but it's also quite insulting. We used to recognize thinkers, builders, workers, people who actually did things. There was a world before celebrity culture. And it's sad that it takes a celebrity to draw publicity to a cause....but that's no excuse for exalting vapid, overpaid celebrities. This celebrity culture has gone way too far. It's ridiculous.

And why shouldn't we recognize some lowly worker? Maybe if we all started realizing how dumb and hypocritical celebrities were, we wouldn't award them, and start recognizing real people who do real things.
