Speaking from a cardiology viewpoint, the red flag is not with smoking but with the fact that her father had died of a myocardidal infarction at age 31. Most people with MIs at that early of an age had them not due to blocked arteries, but as a result of undiagnosed congenital heart disease, or CHD. CHD rarely go undiagnosed but when it does, sometimes the first symptom is death, unfortunately. That was what happend to the late Joe Strummer of The Clash. Also, CHD sometimes run in families. Kate would be wise to give up her ciggies nonetheless, given her family history.

Left-sided weakness and tingling can mean many things. It could be a pinched nerve and it could be something more serious like the aforementioned cardiac or neuro-related issues. Sharon Stone had a hemorrhagic stroke and stayed at our hospital as a VIP, I heard we went out of our way for her. Kate is probably getting the whole work-up and treatment right now wherever she's staying.
