I never bought his act as a moral teacher in the first place. There's no way I could suspend disbelief that much, even for entertainment's sake.

I answered that in the other thread about the cancellation. When they suspend production and yank the reruns, so they don't have to pay him, then it's pretty much a done deal. True, they may bring him back down the road, but for right now he's gone.
And I didn't buy his act either, but he was doing a good thing catching criminals so it was all good.
