I'll grant you Grimm, that many guns are stolen from homeowners foolish enough to not keep their guns locked up in a safe worthy of the name (I have one -- it cost more than my freakin' car but was well worth the buy) when they're not being used.
Personally I feel that people ought to be required to buy a good gun safe if they buy/own a gun. It's just a nice bit of extra protection, especially if you have kids or pets. Plus, most of the good ones are fire-rated for at least an hour or two, so they're great places to store paperwork and other valuables.
