The reason music has gotten crappier is the the record industry, and today's consumerist, apathetic, superficial society. The Web is part of this society, no doubt, but it's not the source of the problem.

If it wasn't for the internetz and a music guru friend that searches out all the goodies (we have the same taste in music) my weekends would still be spent in Virgin Records hanging out at music stations trying to find at least one decent new cd. The radio sucks, they play the same crap over and over, because they get paid by the record companies to do so. Even iTunes Store sucks, their search feature is impossible to navigate.
