Agreed. Speaking spanish isn't discrimination, it's more a necessity. People need to get out of this one language mentality. I am looking to take a Chinese(Mandarin) speaking course at the local college. It's the changing of the times and if I want to get ahead I need to adjust to it. Sometimes being the only woman, period, is tough on its own. I remember being in those situations more than once as a working journalist. Many jobs here in Van require Japanese or Mandarin or French or Spanish as a second language. Not having them feels like discrimination, but it is a reality of the times as you said. Being dismissed from job interviews even though you have all the qualifications just because you are not 25 is another thing I have encountered. Lots of companies stress that they have a young, dynamic staff and that's code for don't bother to apply if you're 30 at the oldest.
