No, I don't really see any irony there because the woman was trying to do her job, which is report the news, and she was pissed off that Paris was the top news story. And justifiably so.
Sometimes, when you want people to sit up and take notice of something wrong you can't be nice and polite about it. You have to make some noise, and that's what she did. It was risky, because she could lose her job, but she stood up for her convictions. And who's to say that she didn't try to bring this point up behind the scenes and got brushed off by her bosses, which prompted her on-air rant.
