The reason people are up in arms when the word faggot is used is the same reason people got up in arms in the 60s to now when the word nigger or others like it are used. There are those among us who are sick-to-fucking death of it being acceptable to degrade and put down homosexuals. They are a segment of society that is consistently denied certain rights that others enjoy. It is WRONG! Society has been fighting racism culturally and legislatively since the 50s and 60s. Sure, there is still racism but most of is know it is NOT okay to throw the N word around and we would never dream of condoning racial behavior. It is time to apply that same code of ethics/conduct to discouraging bigoted behavior toward other groups. I think it fantastic that someone stood up, and to a black man of all people, and said your bigoted behavior is not acceptable and there are consequences. Sure it is just a word. It is a word like nigger is a word and we all know what that word connotates. People need to realize the impact of it for the gay community.
