Malcolm X was villified for his racist statements back in the day, by both blacks and whites. He didn't get a free pass. However, once he journeyed to Mecca and worshiped with Muslims from all backgrounds, black, white, Arab, etc, he softened his views and said that he couldn't make blanket statements about whites anymore.
